Introduction: The idea of the Do It Better project was to take a project we had worked on prior and refocus it on how you could do even better. How you could take everything you had learned from not only that project but all of them throughout the year in order to make the best version possible. In my group's case, we chose to re-imagine the Physics of Sports project. In my prior group we chose to find the phhysics of tip off in basketball, but for this new video we chose to do the physics of scoring a goal via header.
How did we do better? Throughout the whole project, we remembered to keep in mind how can we make this better than before. Using the move of a center kick into a header allowed us to calculate two different instances for each equation. It also made things trickier because the header was already receiving prior momentum. We added a section in the video of what not to do as the move could lead to some major repercussions if don wrong. We also decided to dive into the background of concussions. What makes them so common? How can someone prevent them?
Content:
Engineering Design Cycle: We identified exactly what we wanted to do by creating a storyboard and brainstorming what we could do even better. Then we researched and recorded our measurements and videos, Then within the video we made sure to not overdue anything while still trying to make it fun, entertaining, and pleasing to the eye.
Data Analysis: This project took a lot of recording and calculating. As mentioned earlier, we had to find and measure each length of the kick, header, person kicking etc..., then we had to put all those measurements into equations in order to find the different velocities and momentum of the ball.
Reflection:
I think I used loads of critical thinking and tried to step out of my comfort zone, knowing it was our last project. Given that the project was called "do it better" I figured I better put in my best effort and tried to think what could make the project that much better. I also think my whole group did super well staying on task and and keeping on track and on time. We created a calendar beforehand of what we should get done each day and we managed to get all that done but on an even faster timeline. We gave ourselves enough time to make sure there was no need to rush and make sure the video came out the best it could.
But with that, I still managed to be kind of pushy through out the project. I tried my best to listen and hear other ideas. But as we continue onto next year, I also continue learning that not everything has to always be my way and it's okay to let others take the lead at times and see what they have to offer.
