Task: For our build a band project, Mr. Williams asked us to create four different instruments. The three required ones included a string, chime, and wind instrument. The last one could be anything you wished to make. In our case, we made drums which is a percussion instrument. Once deciding what each member wanted to create, we then started to work on our blueprint. We spent the next week or so, in the maker space building our concepts. In order to prove our knowledge of how instruments work and how the pitches within our instrument are able to be played, we were asked to write and perform a song. It was up to you as to how you would present your song.
Explaining the wave concepts in terms of instruments & our music vidoe:
What specifically do these concepts mean?
Wave speed (Velocity): How fast the wave can travel.
Wave length: The distance between a wave's crest to the next given crest.
Frequency: The number of vibrations within a second.
Amplitude: The distance from the midpoint of the wave to it's max height.
Reflection:
This project was really fun. I did a really good job problem solving and persevering when a problem occurred. Which was one of my goals for myself this project. I originally planned to bring different cans and materials from home, but wasn't able to get them so I had to problem solve and use whatever materials I could find in the makers space. I was also very good at time management, and my whole group and I were able to finish our project fairly quickly.
I think I cooperated pretty well, but could've been more helpful when other group members needed help. My instrument was pretty easy to make and I should've spent more of my extra time in between helping the people in my group with their instrument. Especially because a few of them had way trickier instruments.
