For our poetry writing unit we were asked to write poems at least 12 lines and put our heart and soul into our writing.
Poem 1) Tell the World Who You Are. Write a poem that shows who you are through the use of vivid imagery. Include
metaphors and similes.
Poem 2) Tell the World About a Special Place. Write a poem filled with the sensations: sight, sound, taste, touch, and
smell.
Poem 3) Tell the World What You Think. Write a poem in which you say what you think. Enhance your voice in the
poem by using sound devices such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, repetition, rhythm, rhyme, and/or meter.
Poem 4) Tell the World What You Love. Write an ode about someone or something that you love. Or write an ode about
someone you admire. Write a poem honoring someone who has, perhaps from a distance, made a difference in your life.
Fill your poem with details.
Poem 5) Tell the World How it Feels. Choose one emotion and write a poem about it.
THIS IS ME
I was born on a boat at a purple lake
My dad looked at me and said “You is Jake”
We were heading on back to shore when pirates attacked
They rocked or boat and I fell back
Off the boat out into the water
I sank like a rock, didn’t float like an otter
As I sank down I saw many things
The promise of my future and other sunken kings
Us kings discussed in the lake
They raised me as the God King “The Great Jake”
As the God of kings I knew I could not stay
At the age of seven I traveled far away
To a place they call Novato
It smelled of money and old bodo’s
I learned the value of avacodoes
“Feels Great Baby”
The Niners are going to the superbowl
So that’s pretty kool
There’s no doubt in my mind we won’t win
If we dont then I’ll be crushed for what could have been
This greatness is feel is so dope
Just fills my soul with hope
Greatness is being so friendly to me
Coming with me everywhere I need
When it feels great baby
Baby it means it’s great
Greatness will go to the niners Sunday maybe
That would be pretty great
Goose Ocean
I see tree’s of black,
Dead roses too
The smell of someones yack,
And I can hear it too
And I think to myself,
What a terrible world
I see skies of grey,
Yet clouds of white
The bustling busy day,
But a cool calm night
And I think to myself,
What a mediocre world
The blue of the sea,
Brings a tear to my eye
So beautiful to me,
Reminds me of one close by
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world
While writing these poems I could really feel myself let loose and just let the words come out of me. Writing and learning about poetry was a splendid experience. My motivation was to get it over with and my work ethic was little to none. Regardless, it was a wholesome experience. I was organized enough so that I clearly knew what I was doing and I managed my time fairly well, getting them all done quickly. My planning of my poems didn't happen and I would always just start writing about what is on my mind and went with it. I think that if this unit taught me anything it was that I am very busy and school is just a part of life I need to get through like each of my poems. Personally I do not think I showed any growth towards the 6 C's (Character,Cultural Competence, Critical Thinking, Conscientious Learning, Communicating, and Collaborating) during this unit.
