Shop Green

We decided to create a pamphlet to hand out at the environmental club meetings and during lunch. This will teach others about opportunities in our community to buy local and support local businesses. This increases the economy of your community and keeps the food cycle concentrated.

We visited The Civic Center Sunday Farmers Market, and talked to several vendors about their products. We took photos and interviewed vendor owners about their food.

Macro-molecules:

Macro-molecules are the building blocks of our body. These are proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acid. These are found in foods, and they do different things for us. Proteins are required for the structure, regulation, and function of our body's tissue. Carbohydrates provide energy for our bodies. Lipids store energy. Nucleic acids store and express genetic information.

All of these can be found in good proportions in all healthy foods. Some modern fast foods have too much, or too little of these macromolecules. Buying fresh produce is better for your health, and for the environments health.

The Environment:

The environment and the ecosystems all around us are what keep us humans alive on this planet. Without us, this planet would be fine. But without nature, we humans would not survive. we need to fins ways that we can live co-existing with nature and the earth. Growing locally and not spreading out globally would increase the health of this planet by keeping the ecosystems intact. Buying and shopping at local grocers and farmer's markets keeps this cycle going.

We encourage these healthy habits of buying and eating locally to improve our community and our planet. Our goal is to teach others of their ability to be a part of something important for our society to make a habit. Shop Local, shop Green.

Reflection:

I learned a lot about how our environment and our bodies work. I learned that macromolecules are good for your body, and how to make a good meal that consists of balanced macromolecules. I learned about How our society makes and sells processed foods with advertisements. I used the conscientious learner skill to make plans for doing more work on our project outside of school. Our team used the cooperation skill to give each person a specific job and a slide to work on.

I want to work on my communication skills more next time because I had a misunderstanding with a friend of mine on the project we did as a team. I want to continue to improve on my collaboration skills for ideas and goals with my team because I tend to push my ideas onto other people. I want to work harder at being a part of the team, not a leader or captain.
