The Project
In this project my group was told to create a video displaying the physics of a certain sports action. We had to film and edit a video and calculate the physics in it in 10 days. The sports action my group chose was kicking a soccer corner kick and then heading it into the goal.
The first thing we had to do was plan our video with a storyboard. This told us what shots we wanted to film and in what order. The next thing we did was go out and film the kick and header. It took us a while to figure how we wanted to do it because only one group member played soccer. Then we finished all of our calculations and wrote out a script of what we wanted to say in the video. We had to explain all of our calculations and show how to actually perform the kick. The last step was editing everything and adding a voice over.

Force of Impact
Force of impact is the force exerted when two objects collide. The equation is mΔv=Ftimpact. It is measured in Newtons.
Ex: The force of the kick on our ball was 452 N, or 102 lbs.
Horizontal Velocity
Horizontal velocity is the average speed on a flat surface with no outside forces. The equation is vx=Δx/t. It is measured in m/s.
Ex: The horizontal velocity of the ball after it was kicked was 14 m/s or 31 mph.
Vertical Velocity
Vertical velocity is the velocity of a falling object going up or down. The equation is vy=agtfall. Its measured in m/s.
Ex: The vertical velocity of our kick was 11.2 m/s or 25 mph.
Total Velocity
Total velocity is a measure of the velocity of an object relative to another point when combining two or more relative velocities. The equation is vx^2+vy^2=vtotal. It is measured in m/s.
Ex: The total velocity of our header was 8.26 m/s or 18 mph.
Conservation of Momentum
Conservation of momentum states that the momentum of a system is constant if no external forces are acting on the system.
Calculations
Reflection
This was the second project we worked on in STEM, and I think it went a lot better than the Rube Goldberg Machine in most ways. First of all, I think I was more focused during this project and worked better with my group. However, there were many obstacles my group faced during this project. First of all, one of our group mates wasn't here for almost the entire project. This obviously affected us because we only had two people in our group to complete the project.
The other problem we had was that I did not have a phone for the entire project because it was broken. This meant that one person had to edit the whole thing and we couldn't communicate outside of school. Even though we were at a disadvantage, we still managed to finish our video and do well.
Some things I could have improved on during this project is communication and work ethic. I think I could have communicated with my group more about what I was working on and how they could help. I should have been clearer. I also could have helped more with the work. I wasn't in the video because I didn't play the sport, and I couldn't edit except for the voice over. I think I did the calculations though, and didn't let my group member do everything. Overall I think this was a fun project and we did well.
