Our goal was to create an entertaining movie that additionally displays the chemistry behind special effects in the movies. In order to complete the project, we planned filming events, created a script with events that we could recreate chemically, researched these chemical reactions, and then we created these reactions.

Our final project was a 5 minute movie followed by a supplementary director's cut, explaining the four chemical reactions/special effects within the movie. We presented our movie in a COVID-19 edition of movie night, where we unveiled our movies to all the parents and had people judge our final outcome.

Synthesis : A chemical reaction where two elements/compounds combine to make one compound. The simplest example of synthesis is A+B->AB. Another subject I can relate synthesis to is math. Chemistry is basically math (a bunch of equations).

Decomposition : A chemical reaction where one compound separates into two or more elements/compounds. The simplest example of decomposition is AB-> A+B. Another subject I can relate decomposition to is math. Chemistry is basically math (a bunch of equations).

Single Replacement : A chemical reaction when on element in a compound is traded for another to create a new compound. The simplest example of single replacement is A+BC->B+AC. Another subject I can relate single replacement to is math. Chemistry is basically math (a bunch of equations).

Double Replacement : A chemical reaction where two elements in ionic compounds are exchanged with each other to create two new compounds. The simplest example of double replacement is AB+CD->AD+CB. Another subject I can relate double replacement to is math. Chemistry is basically math (a bunch of equations).

Chemical Reaction : A reaction where the arrangement of elements/atoms are changed, usually changing the chemical properties of the substance. Another class I can relate this term to is art. There are many pieces of art that involve chemical reactions, even involuntarily.

Physical Change : Can be seen or observed, but doesn't change the chemical formula of the substance. Another class I can relate this term to is English. When you write down on a piece of paper, you put lead onto the paper. No change in the substances though.

Endothermic : A reaction in which heat is absorbed in the process creating a cool environment most of the time.

Exothermic : A reaction in which heat is expelled. Another class I can relate this term to is PE when we go on runs.

Ion : An atom with an electron number different than its number of protons.

Element : Any substance with a different number of protons, a pure substance that cannot be decomposed by normal chemical changes. All the discovered elements are on the periodic table.

Compound : Atoms bonded in a specific way together.

One thing I felt I did exemplary on was productivity and work ethic (conscientious learner). I felt I did a great job on this project, considering the limitations. I did all the editing and I was the main character of the movie. It felt good to improve on my overall quality and quantity of work produced. One thing I improved on was critical thinking. We figured out creative ways to connect the story line and make due with what we had. I edited a chemical reaction over a prop throughout the movie.

One thing I need to improve on is time management (conscientious learner). Time management was difficult because I procrastinate severely. We did the entirety of the project during the last weekend before it was due. Changes I need to make during the next project is to make a calendar/scheduled work log so I don't pile massive heaps of work at the end. Another thing I struggled with was cultural competence. Though there was a pandemic I still decided to meet up with friends to film this. I feel that the movie's quality would have been terrible if not. We should've been more respecting of the current climate.

I had a lot of fun doing this project. I definitely will want to create a movie as the creative component again.
