Frog Dissection

Intro

We dissected frogs to learn about the anatomy of animals, especially the frog. We learned to tell the difference between a male and female frog based on external anatomy (they have no external reproductive organs). We learned all the organs in comparison the the humans' organs.

This is a poster of the body system we received. This is the muscular system. It shows how it works and what it does.

Content

Circulatory system : Circulates blood around the body via the heart, arteries and veins, delivering oxygen and nutrients to organs and cells and carrying their waste products away. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Digestive system : System to absorb nutrients and remove waste via the gastrointestinal tract, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach and intestines. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Excretory system : Eliminates waste from the body. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Endocrine system : Influences the function of the body using hormones. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Integumentary system : Skin, hair, nails, sweat and other exocrine glands. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Immune system : Defends the body against pathogens that may endanger the body. The system comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Muscular system : Enables the body to move using muscles. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Nervous system : Collects and processes information from the senses via nerves and the brain and tells the muscles to contract to cause physical actions. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Urinary system : The system where the kidneys filter blood to produce urine. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Reproductive system : The sex organs required for the production of offspring. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Respiratory system : Brings air into and out of the lungs to absorb oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Skeletal system : Bones maintain the structure of the body and its organs. We had to take notes on this system. This helped learn how this system supports other systems and how organisms survive/work.

Amphibian : small vertebrates that need water, or a moist environment, to survive. We did a dissection on an amphibian and it is what we used to observe the systems of the body.

Chordate : chordates possess a notochord, a dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, an endostyle, and a post-cloaca tail. This helped us to identify the frog's parts and compare the human to the frog.

Frogs lay eggs, which classifies as external fertilization. The females lay eggs and the males fertilize the eggs.

Cloaca : The frog equivalent to the human anus. This helped us learned how the frog reproduced and how the excrete excretory fluids.

Anatomy is the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms, especially as revealed by dissection and the separation of parts.

An organ is a group of tissues. An organ system is a group of organs.

Reflection

I think our work was good. We veered off from the normal dissection and used an online resource and the textbook to complete the assignment. This was detrimental and did not show our cultural competency. We didn't show this because the kids in our group were too scared of the frog, a dead animal. We did not complete the project to the best of our abilities but I would say it was mediocre.

One thing I need to improve on is that I need to find better group members to improve my grades. I bring other people up but the drag me down a little bit. I need to show more communication and collaboration skills to find other group members. Another thing I learned that I need to improve on is that I should manage my time better. I have always had a problem with time management but I really need to fix this.

One new skill that I gained was identifying different organs and systems of the body. I do not know where things are located in the body but after this project I felt confident in identifying parts of the body. Another skill I feel I have learned about myself was verbal tests. I usually think better when writing in a quiet environment. I am usually not good at thinking before I speak. I did not think I would do well but after studying, I was able to answer the question on spot.
