This is a series of three (2+2+2) facilitated interactive workshops – each focusing on a specific classroom management topic: The Social Contract; Policies and Procedures; and Dealing with Behaviors in the Classroom.

Description: A Social Contract is an agreement between teacher and students about the values, rules, and consequences for classroom behavior. Its purpose is to establish rules and consequences based on guiding principles or values that will guide students in their activities and interactions together. It is a strategy that involves group decision-making, input, and commitment to empowering students to take ownership of their instructional time with the teacher as a guide and ally.

Policies and Procedures
Description: Inspired by Harry Wong’s First Days of School. By introducing procedures in the classroom, you are also introducing procedures as a way of living a happy and successful life. This workshop will focus on the procedures and routines needed to ensure a successful start to a school year. The focus will be given to the beginning of, middle of, and end of class.

Challenging Behaviors in the Classroom
Description: We will review strategies that can be utilized when working with challenging behaviors while connecting all modules of the Classroom Management strand. Research-based strategies and school site resources will be discussed while providing insight into why students act out.
