Museum student feedback on GRCC classes!
Course Code: AS 102
Credit Hours: 3
Professor: Randall Mergener
Students took this class online (asynchronous) during the Winter 2021 semester.
Difficulty Ratings: 4/10, 6/10 (this class was somewhat difficult)
"It was challenging, but not too difficult."Grade of student(s) when taking the class: 11th
Worktime ratings: 5/10, 6/10
"It definitely took more time than my high school classes, but not too much more."Recommend?
"I would definitely recommend this class because it was really interesting to learn about astronomy and it built off of a lot of the science we learned in 10th grade. I would recommend that if you take this class to take it second semester of 10th grade or later, because some of the information in first semester of 10th grade science was definitely helpful to know ahead of time to grasp some difficult concepts. This class was really fun for me and I enjoyed the online format because I could do it on my own time. "
"This class is a pretty easy class, easy to get college/high school credit and get a taste for what dual enrollment will be like. The online class is very, very nice because you can do your work whenever and not have to stress about your schedule."
What were assignments like?
"Each module was 2 weeks. In those two weeks you would have several chapters of the textbook to read, about two hours of lecture videos to watch, one assignment per week (two total), and a project at the end of the module. The assignments are all multiple choice, and the projects are short essays or presentations. The final was multiple choice and short answer, with a couple 'essay' questions."
"We had 7 2-week modules. Every two weeks we had to do some reading from the textbook, watch lecture videos, post to the discussion board 5 times, and do two worksheets (one each week). We also had a larger essay or project for each module, but those could usually be completed in one or two days. We also had one final exam that had multiple choice, short answer, and a few essay questions."
Other things students took the class would like you to know:
"The professor was super laid back and I think if you ever needed an extension he’d give it to you. The weekly worksheets were only graded on participation, so you could really focus on learning the material and using the worksheets to help you learn, rather than just having to memorize. Besides having the exam at the end, it didn’t feel too different from a museum school class."
"Though it is an easy class, it is super interesting. If you're interested in science and space and just want an introductory course, this will be perfect."
