Difficulty Ratings: 8/10 (this class was fairly difficult)
"It was just like learning new math for me, like when you start a new grade the math is new so it is kind of hard, but then it builds up. It also took time, but the mindblowing-ness of the math was worth it."Grade of student when taking the class: 10th
Worktime ratings: 8/10 (this class took a fair amount of time)
"I think it was a 5 credit hour class, I did like 1-2 hours every day? It was a while ago. Also I work slowly."Recommend?
"Yes it is very mindblowing math and you start to apply "meaningless" simple math from elementary. You start to see all of the knowledge fall into place. At the end you will feel the smartest you have ever been."

What were assignments like?
"The lessons/assignments were all organized in folders on Thinkwell online so I could easily look ahead or work ahead and plan out my workload for the whole class. The only part not online was I had to go to the Testing Lab place at GRCC to take tests, there were 3 tests plus one final. So the day to day workload looked like this: you spread the lessons out over the week (4-6ish per week, some are shorter/easier and some are longer/harder) and they each have 5-10 sub-lessons (which all have a 10ish minute long video with Dr. Burger, a document you can read, and optional practice questions. I would write all the stuff down organized into a notebook so I could remember it.) and then you do the mandatory homework questions for those lessons, then you do the weekly quiz. Every few weeks you go do one of three tests at GRCC (there are practice tests too on Thinkwell), then at the end you take the Final at GRCC. All the good stuff from the course lies on 2 very used sheets in my notebook."

"4 credit hour class, I did like 1-1.5 hours every day? It was a while ago. Also, I work slowly."Recommend?
"Yes, everyone in the 21st century needs to take this class. You can start to see how advertisements can trick you with numbers and how easy it is for there to be errors in data. It was especially helpful to have this knowledge for the pandemic and seeing coronavirus numbers and other numbers for homelessness, depression in teens or isolated people, etc. And politics too, like with the election and opinion polls."
Other things studentst that took the class would like you to know:
"If you enjoy problem solving and getting smarter, this course is for you. If you are someone who doesn't feel accomplished after figuring out how to do a type of math or feel satisfied after mastering the topic, this course is not for you. If applied math is up your alley, and you like to be able to use what you learned that day in the real world, this is for you. I would recommend having an in-person math teacher to talk to and help you through sticky lessons. You can always email your GRCC teacher too."

Student took this class online (asynchronous) during the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 semesters.
Difficulty Ratings: 9/10, 5/10
"It was just like learning new math for me, like when you start a new grade the math is new so it is kind of hard, but then it builds up. And remembering stuff from last year but that ended up not being a problem because it got retaught well. It also took a lot of time, but the mindblowing-ness of the math was worth it.""It was a lot of math, and some of the concepts may be difficult to understand. The concepts are all super interesting though, which makes them easier to understand."Grade of student when taking the class: 11th
Worktime ratings: 9/10, 4/10
"It was a 5 credit hour class, I did like 1.5-2 hours every day? If I didn't procrastinate. Also I work really slowly and take notes so info sticks."Recommend?
"Yes it is very mindblowing math and you start to apply "meaningless" simple math from elementary. You start to see all of the knowledge fall into place. At the end you will feel the smartest you have ever been."
"I would recommend this class. It was super fun, with a ton of interesting concepts that were connected to real life. The math is also an introduction into higher math classes, which will be useful for higher education. The professor was very helpful, and the lesson videos (From Dr. Burger) generally explained things well."
What were the assignments like?
Each week there were between 3 and 4 lessons due as well as quiz covering those lessons. Each lesson has up to 5 'sub-lessons' consisting of a video and a practice (between 3 and 15 questions), as well as a homework assignment (between 5 and 20 questions) for each lesson. There are three tests spread throughout the semester, with 26 questions each, covering the last 10 lessons. At the end of the semester, there is the final, which is a test with 27 questions covering all the concepts of the semester.
Other information and recommendations
"Make a schedule. There are a LOT of assignments for this class, and the site used to organize them is not great at showing deadlines. Understanding the initial concepts is also incredibly important, take the extra time in the beginning to understand it, or you will not do well over the semester."
"Taking this class with another student is REALLY helpful, because you have someone easy to talk to about it and don't always have to wait fora teacher."

"This class pushes the limits of your brain and your schedule. Not for the faint of heart."Grade of student when taking the class: 11th
Worktime ratings: 9/10
"I could not focus well cause of the pandemic, so it took me way too long to the assignments. Also even when you are able to focus, one math question can take 10 minutes or more."Recommend?
"Yes, if you like math. Some of your previous skills from Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calc will be used in this course and it is cool to see it all fall into place. The teacher was really nice."
What were the assignments like?
"A few lessons and homework assignments for each week, at the end of the week there is a weekly Quiz, and you have to contribute meaningfully to the discussion board at least once a week. There are 3 tests, like every few weeks. And a final exam. And you have to go to class."
Other information and recommendations
"Good notes are imperative, from previous classes too. Always take notes, but make sure they are actually good notes that you could easily understand in a year from now."
