Estrella Trujillo played a major role in growing Grape Creek FCCLA’s membership and getting more students excited about being involved in Family and Consumer Sciences. She was known for her leadership, positivity, and willingness to step up and help wherever she was needed. Estrella later went on to serve as a 2023 - 2024 National Officer for FCCLA, representing over 240,000 members across the country, which is an incredible accomplishment. During her time as a national officer, she advocated for youth leadership and career and technical education while meeting with organizations such as the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and state boards of education. Her journey shows what is possible when students take advantage of FCCLA opportunities, and her impact continues to motivate Grape Creek FCCLA members to lead, serve, and aim high.
Today, Estrella Trujillo is continuing her leadership journey as a Gates Scholar from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a student at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is majoring in Public Health on the pre-PA track. Her experiences in FCCLA played a key role in shaping her path by helping her develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong passion for service. Through FCCLA, Estrella learned how to advocate for others, communicate with professionals, and take initiative, skills that directly support her goals in healthcare and community wellness. The leadership foundation she built in FCCLA continues to guide her as she works toward making a meaningful impact in her community and the healthcare field.

Mrs. Sharpes supports FCCLA in various ways. Since 2008, she has been helping to chaperone students from Regional to National events. She serves as a proofreader for projects, a mock judge, and a feedback provider for STAR Event projects and officer speeches. Mrs. Sharpes can always be counted on to judge STAR Events for Region I and State competitions. She can frequently be seen making on-the-fly repairs to student clothing and FCCLA jackets just before students' presentations when an emergency seamstress is needed. She has also accompanied students and provided emotional support to many chapter officers, and has been tasked with collecting projects and meals, as well as serving as the chief go-getter for all lost or forgotten supplies. On more than one occasion, Kay has driven to Dallas from West Texas to collect and or deliver needed FCCLA materials over the past 16 years, and has attended too many FCCLA events to count. She has been a huge supporter, glad to give her time and monetary resources so that students can participate in FCCLA.
