As part of the Humanities Scholars' Programme History Academic Mentoring Programme, I embarked on a journey to explore a new historical research methodology - oral history, under my history tutor, Ms Loh's guidance. I was tasked to complete a two-part process:
To conduct an oral history interview relating to a topic of your choice on the everyday lives of Singaporeans
Using the information from the interview, I am to write a 500-word Insights & Reflection paper on how the information enhances my understanding of the topic.
As this project entails the focus on an oral history interview, I wanted to choose a topic that is close to heart and find a connection between Malaysia and Singapore's shared history. Hence, after much deliberation and discussion, my research topic of choice is 'Shared Vulnerabilities of Multiculturalism in Malaysia and Singapore: Lessons from the May 13 Tragedy'.
