This remote teaching and learning format has been an invaluable learning experience. This format of teaching and learning has helped me sharpen my tech skills and find creative ways to engage with my students.
Using apps such as EduCreations, Explain Everything, Kahoot! and many more have made it possible to engage with students in a very efficient and fun way!
Transitioning back to teaching in person has been one of my greatest joys. Working with students in small differentiated groups, as well as offering intervention support for students in need has been immensely gratifying.
Being a part of a Kindergarten and 5th grade classroom that epitomizes a differentiated approach to teaching has helped me grow as an educator.
Attached below is a lesson I taught to the 5th grade class about the vocabulary used in the book,Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.
I had my students work in partners to look up the definitions of words used in the book (i.e. ordinary, cleft palate, precept, and mortality) and then we came back together as a class to go over the definitions. Students were utilizing the 4 C's throughout this lesson and I was moved by how thoughtful they were in their definitions and interpretations of the characters in the book.
This book has been a delight to teach in that it elicits conversations about moral and ethical issues that students want and need to have.
