Professional Biography for Albert L. Flood III
LTC(R) Albert L. Flood III is the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) at the “Crusader Battalion”, Delsea Regional High School’s Army JROTC program. LTC(R) Flood joined Delsea Regional HS after serving as the Senior Army Instructor at Overbrook High School in west Philadelphia for 2 ½ years. Prior to serving at Overbrook, Al was the Regional Vice-President (East) for Phase 4 Learning Centers Inc., an elite 501c3 private non-profit alternative education corporation, serving hundreds of at-risk high school students from across the School District of Philadelphia. Just after retiring in 2008, Al worked for Ignited LLC, a Los Angeles, CA-based integrated marketing and advertising company, and was the Director of the Army Experience Pilot Project, a Department of Defense-level experiential integrated marketing and advertising experiment for the U.S. Army.
Al, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and Army helicopter pilot with 22 years of active duty service, served in a variety of leadership and education-related positions in his military career. Prior to retiring from the Army in September 2008, Al served as the Department Chair and Professor of Military Science for “Task Force Dragon”, Drexel University’s Army ROTC program. Spanning Philadelphia and southern New Jersey, Al led a department of 13 military and civilian employees, with the mission of developing over 125 ROTC Cadets annually from Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, LaSalle University, St. Joseph’s University, Rutgers University-Camden, Rowan University and several smaller colleges and universities into junior officer leaders for our nation. While serving as Department Chair, Drexel’s Army ROTC program was consistently ranked in the top 20% of all Army ROTC programs in the nation.
Before leading “Task Force Dragon”, Al Flood served as the Brigade Operations Officer for the 18th Aviation Brigade (Corps)(Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This 2500-person strong unit, with over 140 helicopters and equipment valued at over $2 billion, deployed and supported operations around the world – from responding to the events of September 11th, 2001 at the Pentagon to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt and the Balkans. Previous to this assignment, Al served in a variety of senior staff positions at Fort Bragg, as well as an Advisor to Army Reserve units in the northeast U.S. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Canisius College and Niagara University in New York, teaching, coaching and mentoring college students for over four years. He commanded a helicopter company in Hawaii in the 25th Infantry Division (Light), and deployed with the 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division to Haiti during OPERATION "UPHOLD DEMOCRACY" in 1995. He also served as Operations Officer for the Combined Canadian-Argentinian-US Aviation Unit (CAU) with the United Nations Mission In Haiti (UNMIH) that same year. He served as a General’s Aide de Camp for two Assistant Commandants at the Army Aviation Warfighting Center at Fort Rucker, AL. LTC Flood served in combat with the 2nd Battalion, 229th Attach Helicopter Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
LTC(R) Flood is a graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff College. His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, UN Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Valorous Unit Award, Senior Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Bronze Medal of the Order of Saint Michael.
A graduate of Rutgers University, LTC(R) Flood completed his graduate/MBA studies at Niagara University. Al and his wife Patti have been married for 25 years and have two daughters – Victoria and Lauren, both of whom are pursuing PharmD/PhDs in Boston.
