Preflection: In this project, we will be drawing a child from Sierra Leone, using either pencil, colored pencil, or chalk pastel. We hope to make a drawing that looks good and send it to the child so that they will have something of their own. I feel a little excited for this project, but also a little nervous. I think it is super cool that we get to send these to the children, but I'm hoping that mine will turn out good.
The most important aspect of this portrait is to make something that will make the children feel loved. I hope that the children see the drawings of them and feel the love and support. This activitiy could be considered as worship because we are serving these children and God by using the gifts He gave us. I will know if I am successful on this project if my drawing looks like the child, and if it brings him joy to see it.
Practice Reflection: From practicing these last three weeks, I was able to decide what I wanted to do for my final project. The pencil came the easiest to me, and I probably enjoyed it the most, but I decided that I would rather push myself for the final project. I really enjoyed using the colored pencil, and at the beginning I felt like it was looking really good, but then I messed up which was a little annoying. I did decide to do colored pencil for my project, though, because I feel like there is still lots I can learn from it, and I enjoy using them. The chalk pastels were fun for me at first, but as I went on, I found it really challenging to find the right color, making me mess up half of his face. I also struggled with the lips and eyes with these, so I felt that if I used these for my final project I would not enjoy it at all and be frustrated.
Throughline: In this project, I think we will be Servant Workers and Beauty Creators. We will be servant-working because we are making these for the children to give them something of their own that might bring them joy and feel loved. This is also beauty-creating because we are using the artistic gifts that God has given us to make something beautiful for others.
