We got to choose to either make a clay lantern or a clay bowl, and I made a clay lantern. We first rolled out clay and cut it out using a stencil. We then put it all together using a slip after we finished putting textures on it. We then fired and then glazed it. The goal of this project was to make a good lantern or bowl. My favorite part of my lantern is the swirly line pattern I used. My least favorite part was the lid because I felt like it was a little uncentered and I could've done it better.
We made a clay dessert plate. We first rolled out the special clay and then put it onto a plastic dessert plate to get the right form. We also chose the pattern that we wanted. We let the clay dry out for a little bit to hold the form and then we took it off the plate and attached the feet. We then used the special glaze and let it dry before we used our pattern stencil. We then used exacto knives to carve out the pattern and when we finished we put this green glaze stuff that was to make all of it look nice and glassy. Then we put it in the kiln and fired it. My favorite parts were the color I chose because I liked how it ended up and the design as I thought that it wasn't too complicated.
We made a logo that reflected who we were. First, we had to decide our design for a shape and brainstorm what things we could put on it. We then cut it out and built it. When it was built we put on paper towels like paper mache. Next, we started to paint it with things that were something that reflected it. My favorite parts were my tennis ball and soccer ball because I felt like those were the only things that turned out out of everything. My least favorite part was everything else because I had to redo so many parts and messed up so many times that by the end of this project, I was sick of it and didn't like it.
We made bowls and mugs on the pottery wheels. First, we had to get the clay and center it. We then shaped it to fit our bowl or mug. When it was done, we took it off and let it dry out. Next, we had to trim the rough edges and make it look smoother. After that, we put them into the kiln and fired them. Next, we put the glaze on them and fired them again. My favorite part of this project was the trimming process because it was so satisfying and made them look super good. My least favorite part was the green mug I made because I didn't like the color it ended up being.
We made a realistic animal out of clay. First, we had to get the clay and form it into the correct shape. We then shaped it and cut off chunks to make it look more like the animal. When it was good, we cut the animal in half, hollowed it out, and poked holes in it so it wouldn't explode in the kiln. Then, painted it a base color when it came out. Next, we started painting it realistically. My favorite part of this project was the mane of the lion because it ended up looking good and I like how it blended well. My least favorite part was the face because it was the hardest and didn't look as good as I wanted.
In this project, we worked to make a realistic thing out of foam. We started by figuring out what we wanted to make and brought it in to measure it. We then started using different tools to shave and cut off the foam in places to get the right shape. When the shape was good, we started to paint them realistically. My favorite part of this project was the way that the painting ended up. I thought it was going to not look very good but it turned out better than I thought. My least favorite part was shaping the foam because I didn't like all the dust that it got all over.
The goal of this project was to make a big clay jar/vase/pot. They had to be at least 12 inches in any direction but couldn't be more than 18. I first started off just by making a little vase because I wanted it to not be so big and heavy. I finished it pretty quickly though so I also made the second white one and decided to carve out a strip and paint gold in it. We started with a flat base and added coils to fit the shape that we had cut out. My favorite part of this project was doing the gold strip on my white vase. My least favorite part was probably that I didn't do a different shape for my second one. I also was a little disappointed that my first vase fell over in the kiln and messed up part of the glaze and chipped off a piece.
For this project, we made lamps out of reeds and tissue paper. We started off with the reeds and had to bend them to that we wanted. We either used hot glue or wire to keep it in the right shape. After it was formed, we used glue to put tissue paper onto the reed. When it was dry, we cut off the extra paper and put the starchy stuff on it. Then, I put all my pieces together using hot glue and added the light bulb. I actually enjoyed this project and liked how mine turned out because I didn't think it would look this good. My least favorite part is that I didn't make enough petals so I had to make one more later and it isn't the exact same size as the rest, but it's hardly noticeable so I guess it's fine.
