Reflection: This project is not only helping us achieve the new and improved drawing skills to draw portraits but give each of these children in Honduras a great piece artwork that took time and effort to make it the best it can be. On a deeper level, I hope once they all receive their portraits, they'll start to love what they see and feel confident and happy knowing that there is someone that took their time in making sure that their portrait is as perfect as God made them to be fearfully and wonderfully made.
What is the most important aspect of this portrait?
Honestly every part is important since this is the face of one of God's children. I wanted to capture every feature I could making sure nothing was drawn the wrong way or hidden. But, I would say the eyes were the most important since you can tell a lot about someone like how they are feeling based on how their eyes are.
How might this activity be considered worship?
This portrait is being made for someone who definitely deserves it. Using art as a way of happiness is something God would for sure smile upon. God made beauty and we are all his most beautiful creations. So, to try and capture one of his amazing creations by using artistic styles would definitely be considered worship.
How will you know if you are successful on this assignment?
If I am able to not make the kid cry when he receives it, that's how i'll know I did a good job. It all matters on if the kid actually likes it or not. It doesn't matter if I do although I believe I would be proud with my hard work. I want this portrait to be kept with him for the rest of his life.
Oil Pastel Practice
Pencil Drawing Practice
Colored Pencil Practice
Share your thoughts about the last four weeks of practice and the different media. What did you learn? Which medium will you choose and why?
When I heard that we were doing this project, I immediately thought of our self portrait project back in 2D Art. I remember that I didn't do terrible but I also didn't really like it. So, I was just praying that I don't mess up this one since this is going to be gifted to someone else. So looking at all of my practice examples above, it's clear that the best one is probably the oil pastel just because it was able to blend smoothly while my other practices were very questionable especially the colored pencil drawing. But doing these practices helped me learn different techniques, how to do certain parts of the face right, and what colors to use for shading, blending, layering, etc.
Reflection After
After watching this video, I felt so happy that all these kids enjoyed their drawings and are so appreciative of it. Being able to see them express their feelings towards the drawings and looking at how beautifully drawn they were was amazing to watch. Even though I wasn´t able to see the reaction of my kid, I am sure that he loved it just as much as I do. I am glad that I was a part of this project. I hope that I made my kid feel excited and happy that someone took time and care into his drawing. Although I felt the pressure of trying to make it the best as possible, it was all worth it in the end.
