What are we going to do and why? How do you feel about this assignment?
We are drawing a portrait of a kid from Cambodia. I am drawing a portrait of Len. We are doing this to show these kids that there is someone out there who cares about them, and hopefully they will realize that we love them and Jesus does too. I am excited for this assignment, and I am happy that we get this opportunity and get to show our love through art.
For four weeks, I got to practice drawing with three different mediums. I have worked with pencil and colored pencil before, so it was fun to get to do that again. I have never worked with oil pastel, so that was very new to me, but I actually really liked it. I learned that each of these materials is very different and requires different techniques. The medium I ended up choosing is oil pastel. I am choosing it because I have never done a big project using oil pastels, so I want to give it a try.
Reflection: I really enjoyed the process of drawing this portrait. It was very fun to see the portrait come to life and figure out how to use oil pastel. This project definitely challenged me because drawing a person is difficult, because if you mess up a small part, it can make them look like a totally different person. But, I feel that my portrait ended up looking really good, and I am very happy with the final product.Â
When Len receives this portrait, I hope he feels excited and loved. I hope he knows that I care about him and that he deserves this portrait of himself. If I could see Len, I would let him know that he is loved, not just by me, but more importantly by God. I would tell him that God loves him, that I really enjoyed drawing his portrait, and that it was a blessing to be able to do this for him.
