Textured Slab Bowl

For this project, we made a bowl out of a slab of clay. We printed our design onto the clay and then cut the clay into the shape we needed. The hardest part of this project was deciding what design I wanted to put on my bowl. I am a very indecisive person so it took me a while to get a design that I liked but I am happy with the final product. I also really like the color glaze I chose, I just wish it was shiny. Other than that I really like the final product and I am happy with the choices I made.

Sgraffito Plate

For this project, we made a sgraffito plate out of clay. We had a slab of very soft clay, shaped it into the plate and smoothed it out. We added feet and then once it dried we put glaze on and scratched the design onto it with a pencil. After the design was on, we scratched away the glaze where we wanted it to be white. I really enjoyed this project because it was fun to see it come together. The hardest part of this project was getting all of the glaze out of the design because I wanted it to be as clean as possible. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Personal Logo

For this project, we sketched out the design we wanted to make, built the design, covered all of the edges with tape, paper mached it, and then finished it off by painting. I enjoyed painting this project the most because I got to see my vision come to life and I got to make it my own. The hardest part about this project was constructing the structure. It was just difficult to make sure everything was taped together tightly. Each thing on my logo has a purpose to it so I will list those below. Overall I really enjoyed this project and the only thing I would change is some of the designs I chose.

The orange and pink theme on the front is because those are two of my favorite colors and I think they represent my happy, bright spirit.

Matthew 6:34 is my favorite Bible verse and the beach with the sand and ocean is because I really enjoy vacation especially in Hawaii.

The disco ball is because I love to party with my friends and I enjoy dances. The frosting drip with sprinkles is because I love to bake.

The flowers on the side are because I love getting flowers and I think they are very pretty.

Clay Animal

For this project, we made a realistic-looking animal out of clay. We sculpted the clay by looking at pictures and made it much larger than needed at first. So then, we could carve it down and get it to the right size. After we got the shape, we textured it, cut it in half, carved it out, and then put it back together. Then, we put all of the little details on it, poked a hole to let the air out, and then fired it. Lastly, we painted it trying to get all of the details and colors on it. The hardest part about this project for me was making everything the right proportions. My favorite part was painting it and making it look realistic. This project was very fun and I enjoyed getting to see my penguin look more and more realistic the more I worked on it.

Foam Art

For this project, we created a realistic-looking object out of foam. First, we had to decide what we wanted to make. Then, we cut out the amount of foam we needed and then we carved it to look like what we were making. After we carved it, we painted it and finished it. I chose a kiwi for this project because I like kiwis and they look cool on the inside. The hardest part about this project was trying to make the outside look like an actual kiwi and getting all of the small details incorporated. The easiest part was probably painting it and I really enjoyed trying to get all of the right colors.

Pottery

For this project, I got to work on the pottery wheel for the first time. I learned how to make bowls and mugs. The most difficult part about the pottery wheel was centering the clay. I enjoyed getting to make the pieces however I wanted and getting to customize them to my liking. I hope I can go on the pottery wheel again and get better at it because I really enjoyed it. These 4 pieces are some of muy favorites but I also made a few more.

Coil Vase

For this project, we got to make any type of pot/vase that we wanted out of coils. We got to design the shape and then carve out a design into it. I kind of just went with a random design with scallops. Overall, I enjoyed this project and I think my favorite part was carving the design out of it. Then, we got to glaze it with any color with 3 layers and fire it with sawdust, flames, and water outside. It was a really fun project.

Reed Lamp

For this project, we got to make a lamp with reed, tissue paper, lights, and a stick if we wanted to. I chose a random stick to use and then made 6 paddles to hang from the stick. I really just made it up as I went and then covered it with tissue paper and brushed the tissue paper to make it less fragile. The idea was that this would hang on a wall like how it is in the picture. Overall, this project was pretty easy but it wasn't my favorite because I don't think I would use it for anything.
