Intro to Art

Hand Drawing

I drew this picture of my hand holding a scissors. It was a little nerve racking going into this drawing. I was garenteed that my drawing would turn out awesome. I honestly thought that that was a lot of pressure, and it wasn't going to be possible. I started on my project and learned a lot while doing it. I learned how to draw things so that they were precise and reflected a picture exactly. We used a technique that I have never used before to do that. This was a procedure of making lines and dots so that they fit the paper perfect. I then learned how to add value. Learning how to add value consisted of a lot of erasing and redoing, over and over. There was also a series of pencils used, ranging from not too soft to really soft. After I completed my shading, I blended the hand to add texture. All of these steps made my art come together. I really enjoyed this drawing. It has given me a sense of confidence in my art skills. Before, I really didn't think that I could ever create something like this. But thanks to Mr. Langmaack, I was able to complete this drawing. I am overall very happy with my progress on this hand drawing.

Insect Painting

I got to paint this painting of two insects in Mr. Langmaack's art class. I was not totally ready to do it, but I learned a lot through the process. I learned that I would way rather draw with a pencil than paint with a brush. I learned how to work with this paint. Keeping it wet, giving it enough time to dry, and layering the paint. In the beginning, I started out with very little contrast. I learned that to make this painting awesome however, I needed to have a lot more "drama" as Mr. Langmaack says. The little details for me were the hardest. I am not the best with a brush, so trying to get little details was a struggle for myself. I learned that I needed to be patient and take the tiniest brush to get those details right. In the end, I really liked the drama that I added to the painting. From darks to lights, it ended up pulling the painting together and adding a lot to it. I am overall happy with the outcome. There are some spots that probably could have used a little more work, but I like it in the end. Overall, I am very happy with how my painting turned out.

Clay Jar

I had the chance to build a clay jar in intro to studio art. I had made a jar like this one before, but when it was put in the kiln it shattered. On the first jar, I figured out how to make shapes in clay by digging them out. I did this with some metal clay tools. At first it was a little challenging to get the clay dug out just where I wanted it. But as I kept doing it it got easier. This jar, the one that you see, is my second jar. I was in a little bit of a rush when I made this one, so I definitely don't like it as much as the first jar. I used a wooden block to put indents into this one. With those indents, I attempted to do hombre. The first set turned out a little rough, I wasn't mixing the colors enough to make it look hombre. As I got to the end however, they were turning out a lot better. I thought it was fun to see what the jar looked like after it was put into the kiln. The jars colors came out, and it was exciting to see what it actually looked like in the end. I would say that overall, I am pretty pleased with my jar. For only having a little time to make it, I think it turned out well.

Clay Bowl

In doing this clay bowl, I learned how to blend clay. I made shapes with the coils and set it up in a way that I could make a cool pattern. After it was fired, I got to paint it. I choose red and just lathered on the paint. It wasn't very hard to paint, I just had to make sure I got the paint in the grooves. I really liked the design of my bowl in the end, and how it turned out. It was really fun to use the coils and make random shapes, that came together to make a bowl. I was a little scared with the color I choose, but when it came out of the kiln, I was very happy. In all, I really like the out come of my bowl.

Clay Whistle

This is my clay whistle. I wanted to do something a little bit different than most people so I came up with a bowl of ice cream. I enjoyed making this. It took quite a bit longer than I thought it would however. Putting in the little details in everything taught me a lot of patience in this project. I had to do a lot of scoring for this project. Between the sprinkles, ice cream balls and cherries it all took a lot of scoring and slip. I also had to be precise in what I painted so that it would come together and look like a whistle. In the end I really like it. It looks like ice cream, and actually whistles!

UnderWatercolor

In this project, I learned how to layer watercolor paint. It was a little hard at first and took me a lot of time. Towards the end, I caught on to it more. I learned that it is okay to make the paint a little darker to add more contrast. I also learned how to do the background on my watercolor well. I thought that it was fun to see how the water could take the paint so far and make it look like it was under the water. I really enjoyed this project and think that I did an overall pretty good job.

Printmaking

This project was a little challenging for me. We first started off by using an app to edit the picture so that it was black and white and showed contrast. Then we had to trace the picture onto our rubber slab. After this we got to do my favorite part of the project which was cutting out the rubber to make the picture of our bird come to life. I thought that it was very satisfying and fun to do. We finally moved onto the part of actually printing. I thought that this was the hardest part of the whole project. It was hard to roll the ink perfectly so that you didn't have to much or to little. I also struggled with getting the roller on the paper when I wasn't supposed to. I ended up figuring out how to do it better, by going a different direction. Figuring out which colors go with which and how to layer the papers was definitely not one of my strong points in this project. In all, I am happy with how it turned out. I am also proud of the progress I made from beginning to end.

Metal Lid Box

For this project, I made a metal plaque to go on a box. We typed out a font we liked, and then trace is onto our metal. From there we worked the metal and carved our name into it. We did this with pencils, pushing the metal into felt so it would take shape. This was my favorite part of the whole project. Then we had to measure and cut foam to make sure the box all fit together. We then wrapped the foam in paper making it look decorative. In all, I really like how the green and gold look together. I also like how my name turned out. I would definitely say this project was a success.

Spot the Differences

In this project, we photo shopped a picture to make 10 differences. I learned how to do a lot of different things on a computer through photo-pea. I enjoyed seeing the progress I made in this project. It was fun to see that what I actually did worked. I learned how to remove, resize, duplicate, and recolor. I didn't love this project, but that is just because I don't love sitting in front of computers. In all I think this project turned out better than I would have ever expected.
