What are we going to do and why? How do you feel about this assignment?
For this assignment, we are going to draw a kid from Honduras. Mr. Langmack got pictures from a guy who takes them for a living around the world and then delivers the drawings back to the kids, then he will send us a video back of the reveal. I think this is a really cool way to connect with kids who have less than us and to bring a little joy to their lives. I love the idea behind this whole project.
What is the most important aspect of this portrait?
The most important aspect of this portrait is the boys eyes. I think eyes can always tell someone a lot so I think it is important to get them right.
How might this activity be considered worship?
I think this could be considered worship because we are creating images of God's creation, other human being made in the image of God. I also think this could be considered worship because worship should be how we live our lives, not just how we sing. I think in creating this portrait, we are going to bring a kid joy, and in that we are worshiping Christ. Also just through using our talents to create beauty.
How will you know if you are successful on this assignment?
I think that it is important that the boy looks like himself, so it is important to me to make it look like the picture. I think that is how I know if I am successful. Also in the video the man delivers back to us when he gives the boy the picture. If the boy likes it, I think I will have succeeded.
The last 4 weeks we have spent practicing these 3 methods which was very helpful and fun! The pencil drawing seemed to come back to me with no problems. It was very easy for me to do and was a lot of fun to use pencils to make highlights and darks like that again. Then we moved onto colored pencil which was a little more challenging for me. It didn't come back as quick as pencil did, but after a little time I figured it out. Getting the right skin color with the colored pencils took a lot of layering and mixing of colors and to be honest a little patience. I had a hard time making it look smooth but in the end I like how the practice turned out. Our last practice was with oil pastel. This was completely new to me and kind of exciting. Definetly the most challenging of the 3, but also the most thrilling because it was something new. I love the contrast you can make with oil pastel and all the different colors you can throw into the picture. The process of getting colors to blend and make the right color reminded me of painting which was kind of fun. At the end of all these practices, I have decided to go with oil pastel. I can be the most expressive with this one and it honestly is just the most fun to me.
This project has helped me to be an image reflector because I was able to recreate an image of a beautiful child of God. I was able to use my skills God has given me to hopefully put a smile on this young boy's face.
This is my final product of my oil pastel drawing. I had a lot of fun with it and really enjoyed getting to learn how to use oils pastel. I loved how dramatic you could get with it all. I found that sometimes it was hard to get the paper fully covered with the pastels and that sometimes too many layers caused for blah coloring. I would say that I am very happy with my final product and how it turned out.
I hope this child feels a sense of joy when he receives his portrait and pride in who God has created him to be. I would tell Cristian that he is a boy made in the image of God and that I felt honored I could draw him. I would also tell him to keep dreaming and work hard to go after what he wants in life. Dream big Cristian, you can do great things.
After seeing the video of the kids receiving this project, I am very glad we did this. Seeing the kids joy and excitement as they received the project was so gratifying. I am so glad that we could make a little impact on kids all the way in Honduras just through artwork. I hope that they continue to feel special and loved and know that no matter what God loves them and has created them in his image. I am very grateful for this opportunity to be able to use artwork to touch the lives of others, what a blessing!
