From the two laptops given to me by the school, the only computer components that I could really repurpose were the monitor, hard drive, and webcam; however, the possibilities of repurposing old technology stretch beyond these ideas. The overall idea of this project was to promote consumers to think about repurposing technology. Renovated Tech is tasked with collecting old technology and repurposing it to give out to communities. These products are intended to combat e-waste while also providing an alternative for providing technology to less fortunate people.
To reiterate again, the idea is to sell about forty percent of the products made to earn money to ship out these products and give a monetary bonus to people when they donate old technology. The forty percent of these sales are intended to cover the financial needs required to assemble and ship these products out to cooperating school systems outside or within the country. The other sixty percent of the product will be used to ship out to countries or schools that need technology.
Not all parts of laptops are salvageable such as the motherboards, casing, daughterboards cannot be repurposed. These parts can still be recycled at E-waste recycling centers. These parts are salvaged for the precious metals it contains such as gold, copper, and silver. Here are some local e-waste centers:
