Engineering is one of the main cornerstones of Renovated Tech. Renovated Tech is tasked with building not only the designs of the cases and stands of the product but also with ensuring that the product is functional. Engineering is connected because I must build these products and ensure that the controller boards or the adapters are functioning.
The idea of repurposing old technology into something new comes with the challenge of creating cases or stands that can make the final product more aesthetically pleasing and hide the wires. With the limited amount of electronics provided by the school, I have been able to come up with three different possibilities that you can make at home. These include a portable monitor, an external hard drive, and a USB webcam. Engineering is connected to this aspect because I had to create cases and stands on the CAD software, OnShape. Not only did I have to create and design them, but also build the physical component. In this case, the monitor had to be stripped from the old laptop and connected to a controller board to work. In the following pages, I will go more into detail about this process.
