On the occasion of SEA Teacher Batch 10, I feel so grateful to be here. From the many students who registered, I was one of the students selected to take part in this activity. I never thought before how it would feel to teach abroad, especially in the Philippines, with a different language. However, that did not stop me from continuing to move forward and became a challenge for me whether I was able to face this.
What I got from this teaching experience in the Philippines exceeded my expectations regarding learning activities. The application of models, methods, media, and other things related to learning here are new things for me in delivering lesson materials. The process of becoming a practice teacher here began when I met Ma'am Melody, a super kind cooperating teacher who always guided me in completing all the lesson plans. Then I was directed to conduct observations in grades 9 and 10 to find out how the learning process was going at the UNP Laboratory School (where I teach). After that, in order to be able to implement my lesson plan, I finally taught in grade 9 section Gregorio Der Pilar with ionic compound material.
From my teaching practice, of course I got a lot of new knowledge and experience in teaching. The application of various new learning media is also a challenge for me to organize classes in a different cultures. I have to be able to uphold the culture, especially in learning activities, in the Philippines. Another challenge is in terms of language because the language used is English which is not a language that I often use in Indonesia. However, with the various challenges that exist, it does not stop me from continuing to move forward and develop to become an innovative future teacher.
Overall, this SEA Teacher program is a place to explore deeper teaching knowledge for me. Meeting great people who are experts in their respective fields, together finding ideas for learning activities, until finally being able to implement my learning plan in a foreign country is something I didn't know would be achieved now. I hope that this program can continue so that new teachers can be created who have the ability to face more challenging future challenges.
Thank you to Mr. Jay, Ma'am Melody, Kuya Lorenz, all of the buddies, all of my students, all of the residents of Balay and everyone who help me finish this journey, I am so happy to be a SciGlat. I hope we can meet again in another time and another opportunity.
Best Regards,
Khoirul Nur Adhi
