MATATAG KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM
The MATATAG Kindergarten Curriculum is designed to support the comprehensive development of young Filipino learners, ensuring they are prepared for formal education.
Curriculum Goals:
Develop learners' identity, social-emotional well-being, cognitive abilities, and physical health.
Equip learners with 21st-century skills, including creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
Foster nationalistic and culturally responsive learning experiences.
Utilize play-based, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate methods.
Core Principles:
Learner-centered and integrated across developmental domains.
Focus on age-appropriate, play-based learning activities.
Emphasis on inclusivity, addressing diverse needs, and promoting national pride.
The curriculum follows Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory, progressing through layers of the child’s environment:
Knowing Who We Are and Our Families: Focuses on self-concept, family roles, and personal identity.
Exploring Our Community: Encourages understanding of community roles, discipline, and respect.
Appreciating Our Country: Promotes Filipino culture, rights, and responsibilities.
Caring for Our World: Develops awareness of environmental care and global citizenship.
The curriculum is structured around six developmental domains:
Literacy, Language, and Communication: Early literacy using the mother tongue and fostering communication skills.
Socio-Emotional Development: Encouraging self-awareness, cultural appreciation, and social interaction.
Values Development: Teaching respect, responsibility, and good manners through integrated Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC).
Physical Health and Motor Development: Promoting fine and gross motor skills, safety, and healthy habits.
Aesthetic/Creative Development: Fostering creativity through art, music, and imaginative play.
Cognitive Development: Introducing basic numeracy, logical thinking, and understanding the environment.
Key teaching methods include:

Assessment is observational, focusing on progress across developmental domains. Tools include:
Philippine Early Childhood Development (ECD) Checklist for developmental screening.
Anecdotal Records and Portfolios for tracking achievements.
Regular feedback to parents to strengthen home-school partnerships.
This curriculum ensures a smooth transition to Grade 1 by integrating foundational skills in a holistic, inclusive, and culturally relevant manner.
