Drawing from my experience in a positive and inclusive classroom environment, I've come to recognize that the basis of successful learning focuses on establishing a conducive atmosphere within the classroom. As an English pre-service teacher, I try to prepare and focus on the material before entering the class by doing an overview of the topic, a crucial aspect that not only imparts confidence to students but also nurtures positive relationships. Additionally, acknowledging the significance of favorable classroom conditions is paramount in fostering inclusivity. In pursuit of this objective, I emphasize engaging students actively in the learning process and creating an environment that embraces and respects diversity. This foundational approach forms the basis for cultivating and sustaining a positive and inclusive attitude within the classroom. Beside that, in order to increase the positive engagement and participation from the students, I try to implement a rewards and punishment system. A reward system here means that when students answer questions correctly, the teacher will give them the point. Meanwhile a punishment here will be given in the form of practicing something. For example, the teacher asks the students to memorize some vocabulary. This approach effectively sparked enthusiasm among the students, leading them to eagerly respond to numerous questions and actively participating in the class.
In order to make the classroom more enjoyable, having a good atmosphere, I try to conduct ice breaking first. At that time, I conveyed “Morning, Afternoon, Night” games to engage students' attention. After that when the students have shown their enthusiasm to study, I will continue to explain the material. I also convey a task-based learning approach to check their understanding. After the material has been explained, I will ask my students to do the assignment. The students can use the source book and I also give them the assignment in the form of a worksheet and another form. This approach has been effective in re-engaging students to be connected into the material being explained. By incorporating the series of activities, the students' activity will always be monitored and guided.
