I learned during carrying out my work plan that policy, law, and advocacy work takes a lot of time. For several weeks, much of my work involved waiting to hear back from people I had contacted, setting up meetings with different people, and trying to create buy-in for my projects. I think this definitely worked on my communications and interprofessional skills. It would be helpful for future projects to learn better time management and how to be more persuasive, as getting policy changed takes time and requires the support of many. Knowing what I know now, I likely would’ve started my research and reaching out to people much earlier on in the project, although much of my time was limited by management approval as well.
