There are thirteen, procedurally-generated levels ('Local Maps') planned, separated into three types ('biomes') according to which resource occurs in abundance. One is food, one is crafting materials such as iron or lumber, and the third is an even mix of both. The resources themselves would be classed as either 'Food' or 'Materials' (see Maps for diagram). So far, the players can only view the biomes directly adjacent to the one they are currently occupying. Their view of the World Map expands as they explore. This allows them to plan their route. Players have a map item/mini-map they can use while exploring the biomes, which will fill out as they run around the world.
Each level is to be 200x200 "blocks", or in-game metres. Navigating the biomes would take approximately 30 minutes; players have 20 minutes to collect resources and complete their role-specific tasks, and then an extra 10 minutes to solve the puzzle and escape. After this point, the Fog starts dealing damage to the train and players. The idea is to create a sort of time crunch where players cannot dawdle, but not so much that it becomes highly stressful to play.
Players have two movement speeds - walking and sprinting (see Character Movement for details). During calculations, we determined that it takes approximately 50 seconds to cross the level (starting at the centre, and unobstructed by resources and enemies).
