This term, or half term, we're studying Keith Haring, an artist who wanted to spread joy throught the world with his drawings and sculptures. The last few weeks we made a paper based art. But now, we're doing a tape tinfoil sort of sculpture.
This was the stage where I did paper mache. Before, we actually crumpled tin foil, and used tape to connect all of it together. It was really difficult at first, but then it got easier and easier every time you did it. Sadly I didn't have pictures of the time we did the tape, because no one took photos. But I can describe it.
Today I'm going to show you everything we covered in thr past few weeks, like as it says up there on the first textbox, we did a Keith Haring painting.
Keith Haring was an artist who wanted to create unique pieces of artwork. He wanted to make people happy and cheerful by drawing happy images.
Keith Haring was born on May the fourth, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and was raised in a nearby town called Kutztown, also in Pennsylavia.
We did a ink drawing, and I really liked that part. I liked how we surrounded the edges of the paper with balck fineline pen. We also added fun shapes and hearts and more!
I didn't stick this epic piece of paper very well, so I have a flappy edged heart for a, well, say, a heart with arms and that heart can float, guys!
And after we cut the paper and stuck them in to the background, which was a white template, we finelined them with super large black permanant markers, so it looked more better and more visible, otherwise we might not know what it actually is.
Eventually after we did the poster, which was so fun, we made a sculpture. Firstly, we used tin foil and crumbled it to look like a head, and then the torso, and the legs, arms, beasically every part in the human body, and that was so fun!!! I also really liked to crumble the tin foil!
After we crumpled the individual tin foil or aluminium parts, we taped them together with tape, which was surprisingly hards to do, because the tin foil kept moving around and I wasn't able to really stick them together that much.
After we connected it together, we did paper mache, where we dipped newspaper with glue, and water mixed together. This makes the newspaper thicken the figure, and when the glue dries, the figure becomes hard.
I found the glue and the water kind of disgusting...
Lastly, we painted the statue white, with white poster paint. I don't have a photo of that.
I wish that I have painted it more throughly, becaue there are some spots that are not completley covered in white paint. And, to be honest, you wouldn't even know that this was made of tin foil at the first place. We're gonna spay paint today!
This is a shaded statue, and I really liked making this. We took a photo of a mannequin and put the filter to colourless, so we could see which part was dark and which part was light.
So after we completed all of our work, they were oresented outside at the entrance for an art exhibition, so parents and siblings can see your artworks. Here's some of mine:
This is the Keith Haring drawing, and I really like this drawing. (Sorry about the bad photo taking)
This is the John burgerman drawing that I really like!
Today we made melting clocks out of clay! We used a technique to stuck the edges on, and we put a ball of tin foil under the clock so it would form kind of a melting shape. A few weeks later, we're going to paint it white so that we can actually paint the clocks , so the colors don't go dark.
Today we painted our clocks. Our clay clocks! Two weeks ago, we painted them white, and today we with the design we created. I improvised, because I didn't really like my design, so I did the imaginative designnof a galaxy instead!
The red ball on the top is like a cherry, and the blackness represents the emptiness and lonliness but also the interesting style of space. The background represents a galaxy in space. So this clock basically shows you a cherry floating around in space :)
The white circle in the middle doesn't stand for a single thing. It's just there so you know it's a clock. Because my clock... does not look like a clock one single bit. It looks like antiny little squid, and I'm proud of it!
Today we added details into our clocks, for example the numbers and the little lines and maybe some flowers or any other decorations. We used posca pens for this project!
I added the numbers, and some additional tiny lines to give it a surrealism style. Sort of. Anyways, I think that this workpiece is awesome, and I really like the details.
In order to add those tiny little details, you have to let the paint dry first. Otherwise you're going to ruin the posca pens and your work at the same time.
Next, we did a workpiece inspired by Joan Miro, who is an artist related with surrealism, and he only uses primary colors, but he also used a few other colors too! The one above is mine, and I really like it!
This is my whale card! We drew it on anoiece of sticker paper. But first we made an actual drawing of that on a paper.
But anyways, this is the whale sticker card, and we will be sticking it on a real card, which will make it look so exciting! My choice of card was the 4 (red) and I think I really like the choice of card and the drawing. The colors sort of contrast, which make it more interesting! Here's a picture:
I think it looks really good!
Because we finished all the work, we got to do some surrealism extension on procreate. My idea was to draw books falling from the sky, such as: Diary #1, Percy Jackson and several more!
I'm not finished yet, there will be a lot more floating books around! I'll show you the final result:
This idea is books falling from the sky. I really like this idea because I can draw the textures of the pages, match the colour of the books, blend in the sky, add the clouds and lots more!
I realised that, to make my surrealism drawing more unique, I should add a book in another language. So I asked my friend Chloe to help me write hello in chinese on the cover if the book.
At first I had many other ideas but they looked not good, but when this ifea appeared in my head it clicked- I should do the falling books! I really liked that idea, and I put in books that Inliked to read and also some things that are important in my life, for example, Music and Diary #1.
This dot here is probably one I accidentally drew. I don't like it- but I guess it adds a touch of surrealism, so I'm keeping it!
If you notice that in my picture, the sky has no sun. I have deliberatly and accidentally forgotten to draw the sun, and also because there wasn't any space left, I didn't draw the sun.
I also didn't draw the sun because it also adds some surrealism in it. The only things that were real were the books that were falling, and the sky, but the rest was all fake. The fact that the books were falling down is amazing and unique!
Today we did some more surrealsim- I loved it! It was very challenging. I think that you can see from the title that we were drawing an eye. I liked it but it was extremly hard for me.
This is my artwork, and I really like it, I think it looks really good from camera, and also in real life too!
This is the title of the new peoject we're starting on today! Well, not technically today. We started drawing it last week, and added the patterns, drawing around 4-6 paisleys.
Here is an example of a paisley pattern. As you can see, the paisleys are formed in the shape of a teardrop, rona raindrop, and more. Each Paisley's design is up to the artist- you can improvise the patterns!
These are my 4 paisleys! I really like the big one and all of them. I think they look very unique.
What we're going to do next week is to create the background strips. We'e going to do this by gettign a strip of colored paper (grey, black, white) and decorate it with newspaper strips, colored paper (any) and more!
So a few weeks ago, we started doing some stiches. We sewed around the borders of the fabric, and placed the shapes onto the fabric by stiching.
I really like this because it is very relaxing at the end. But at first it was very fustrating because sometimes the yarn gets stuck to the fabric and you have to undo it.
I really like this shape because it has a pink pastel color and the stiches I sewed on it are very pretty.
I enjoyed sewing the border line the most because it was very relaxing and easy as we had to stich in the same pattern over and over. And I also like the colors a lot!
We stuck the paisleys to a background paper. We had three options: White, brown and black. I chose black and chose some different colors to cut out (as circles) and chose some newspaper.
This was easy for me because I do scrapbooking activity, so doing the background was okay and I really liked that I matched the colors. And yes, we had to cut out the paisleys by hand, but that was okay.
Today we went outside to the exhibition to take photos of oyr work, which has been stuck up on the walls like last time.
This was the animal card! I really like it because it looks very unique!
This is the stiching design that we created! I feel like it looks really good!
This one here my favorite! The clockgives a space-y sort of theme.
This is escher's eye. I feel like this is a really good masterpiece. It doesn't look as realistic as it should he, but that's okay.
My spaced themed clock is really good! It came out better than I expected because the painting was improvised!
Here was my oiginal clock design where I did a bear theme. But then I ended up choosing the design of the smaller one!
Here we drew the design of what we were going to paint it using sharpies and a bit if color pencils!
This card is based on the drawing that we made by choosing three different slips of paper- an animal, a color scheme and an item.
I like this one much better than the card because we got to draw it large!
This was our first drawing of the paisley pattern! I really liked the color schemes and the details!
I really liked making this because we got to stick the newspaper and colored paper on the strip! I felt very comfortable doing this because ir was just like scrapbooking.
This is a drawing inspired by the artis of Joan Miro! I like the fire the most because from a distance it looks blended in, but when you look closer it's not as neat.
Here is my wticthing project! I really like the color of the borders and the triangle in the middle!
This drawing is really unique to me because it looks like an elephant! But when you turn it around, it looks like a bird.
