Ravenna FFA Bee Team

Biosecurity Plan

- Restrict the amount of visitors, and take extreme precautions with visitors from other livestock areas.

- Keep unauthorized visitors 100 yards away from all bee associated areas.

- Wear boots designated for only the bee yard and bee barn.

- Procedure for visitors of high caution areas:

Dry clean (remove solids), Wet wash, Rinse, Dry, Disinfect

- Notice changes in plants and bee behavior (plants/bees dying and not eating/ leaving hive)

-Assess the changes you see and diagnose the issue if possible.

- If changes in behavior are unknown to any of the members, consult fellow beekeepers/ farmers about the issue “ make sure to have them follow the procedure for visitor sanitation before entering bee/ garden areas”.

- If the bees are diagnosed with any disease you must immediately contact all visitors/ members of the Bulldog Buzz and make them aware of the situation.

- Once the consultation with farmers/vet care is over and they give us a diagnosis we must complete the full requirement of quarantine/medications/sanitation. Then, the bee garden/ hives will be under intense observation for another 10 days. Make sure to sanitize everything after use during the 10 days.

- Make sure to quarantine the people who were in the area until it is known that nothing they have can spread it further. Free to leave quarantine once all clothing, boots, equipment, and personal belongings have been sanitized and sterilized if possible.

-Communicate with our community on the issue, how it happened, and when it will be resolved.
