In Week 6, a segment of the creative toolkit is prototyped in preparation for the development portfolio milestone. These prototypes are presented to collect feedback, enabling further refinement and reevaluation of the toolkit components.
COMPONENT 1: TOOLKIT GUIDE
The toolkit guide takes the shape of a trifold brochure (148.5x423mm), characterized by a color-coded system to distinguish various tools. The primary color chosen for this guide is green. It encompasses both an introductory section and instructions for each of the tools.
COMPONENT 2: MIX N MATCH
The Mix and Match toolset comprises five distinct tools: Target Tidbits, Value-land Voyages, Brainy Blooms, Collage Caboodle, and Reflect and Reboot. When used sequentially, these tools serve as innovative and unconventional creative practices. They serve as valuable aids for educators as they embark on the journey of crafting their own value-based learning materials.
A: TARGET TIDBIT
Target Tidbit takes the lead as the initial tool in the series. Divided into two key sections—Determine and Action Plan—this tool leverages insights garnered from participatory design research and G.UTS. It serves as a foundation for defining objectives, devising methods to integrate value-based practices, and outlining essential milestones and timelines.
B: VALUE-LAND VOYAGES
Value-land Voyages presents a collection of value-based scenarios aligned with the curriculum topics outlined in Target Tidbit. Rooted in real-world contexts, this tool prompts educators to consider creative ways to convey and narrate these values to their students. Currently, two out of five scenarios are shown.
C: BRAINY BLOOMS
In response to previous feedback, Brainy Blooms has been crafted as a mind-mapping tool, tailored to assist educators in brainstorming, planning, and visually structuring their thoughts. This tool facilitates the creation and organization of learning materials and ideas for their lessons.
D: COLLAGE CABOODLE
Collage Caboodle embraces a "hands-on" approach, aiding educators in visualizing their learning materials through collage creation. Educators have the choice to utilize the provided sticker pack or incorporate their own visuals. Like the mind-map tool, it also comes with its own set of prompts to spark inspiration.
E: REFLECT AND REBOOT
Reflect and Reboot is the last tool of the five. It encourages educators to be self-critical, and reflect on the activities complete through this kit. The reflection documents these practices, allowing educators to identify areas for improvement.
ASSEMBLY
Educators can assemble all the tools into a cohesive set within a single setting. This collection of tools is securely bound together using a key ring, providing educators with a convenient resource to aid them on their journey to craft their own value-based learning materials.
COMPONENT 3: STICKER/ VISUAL PACK (DESIGN SPRINT)
Both design sprints revolved around the creative toolkit’s and one of the engaging elements within it. In essence, the sticker pack can assist educators in some of the tool activities, like the collage and mind map.
In the two 40 mins sprint, I integrated visual elements and created some sticker inspirations that resonates with value-based education.
PERSONAL INSIGHTS AND REFLECTIONS
After printing the Instruction guide mockup, it became evident that folding the fully printed 300 GSM paper would lead to unwanted creases and cracks.
Furthermore, I observed that the instructions were not as clear as I hoped. Consequently, I am considering the development of a more comprehensive instruction manual. This manual would provide enhanced detail and clarity, achieved through alternative implementations like a single sheet, or spiral bound booklet.
For Brainy Blooms, the prompts designed to guide educators in creating their mind maps have not been incorporated. Furthermore, both Brainy Blooms and Collage Caboodle mockup, demonstrates a shortage of space for the mind-mapping process. These aspects will undergo refinement in the upcoming week.
PRODUCT DESIGN SPECIFICATION R2
In the development phase, the pdf highlights the refinement of the product design specification in context with recent prototypes and ideas.
UPCOMING TASK
Next week, I will create more visuals and stickers for the resource pack, aim for clearer instructions in the revamped guide, develop additional value-based scenarios with collage and mind-map tools, and create a reflection tool. I'll also refine the Product Design Specification and assess exhibition considerations.
