Design are "facilitators" for change. Designers should collaborate with diverse people and perspectives when researching a design outcome. This enables design to be more thoughtful, and purposeful with longevity.
In visiting the State Library after receiving my design brief, it helped shape my initial research for the project. I was able to visualise the space I would be working with (theoretically). In choosing 'Romance Was Born' founded in 2005 by two university students in Sydney, I wanted to find out more about their story, beginnings, and where they are currently. I found book full of illustrations 'Romance Was Born' that explored their beginnings, and showcased their work and inspiration. In reviewing their work I created a typographic collage, to consolidate my thoughts and feelings about the brand. From this, as well as exploring other social aspects of the design outcome, I have refined a title to 'Blooming Romance' which is not yet final, but a step in the right direction. This can be seen as the fuzzy end of the design research process, slowly getting less fuzzy...
As part of socially innovative design, I also started conversations with people as to what they were doing at the State Library, how they navigated to get to the exhibition. In collaborating with them, I found that there were other university students studying at the library, as well as primary school students on excursion. I also found a lot of tourists navigating through the centre - and the need for it to be easily accessible to accommodate language barriers.
