Frame Creation and Design in the Expanded Field (2015)
Kees Dorst, University of Technology Sydney, Australia
INITIAL NOTES
"Today's open, complex, dynamic, networked problems" - "fruitful way""expanded field of practice"How is design so universal - even if you aren't a qualified designerDesign thinking - problem-solving - "Adopting and Adapting""Thus Design as a field might learn from Law in this instance—but not by simply adopting legal practices; these would have to be radically adapted to fit into a design framework.""Abduction and Framing"PUTTING THEORY TO ACTUALISATION
Design is universal, and impacts every individual differently. The design aims to solve problems. Design can help communicate change in the world subtly yet effectively - through different design practices - communication, spatial, industrial, and collaborative. In thinking critically during a design process one aims to assist in drawing attention to different themes. What is Practice? (2017)
Louis Althusser, Philosophy for Non-Philosophers
INITIAL NOTES
Human interaction is vital for success - conscious behaviours"Practice is poiesis" - production / fabrication"Practice is praxis" "The word ‘theory’ comes from a Greek word meaning ‘to see’, ‘to contemplate’."Practice is social"To grasp what practice is, we have first to recognize the existence of distinct, relatively autonomous social practices.PUTTING THEORY TO ACTUALISATION
Design can help communicate change in the world subtly yet effectively - through different design practices - communication, spatial, industrial, and collaborative. In thinking critically during a design process one aims to assist in drawing attention to different themes.IN STUDIO DOCUMENTATION
In receiving our design brief for our Activation Studio class, we did a large brainstorm of different themes. It was interesting to see the different links between my thoughts and different classmates. The interconnectivity between different themes should be noted. It got me thinking critically, about themes that I'd like to unpack further through my final outcome... home, emotions, belonging, language, communication.
