Undefeated No More

Week 4 Recap:
1948 Revisited 303.25 vs. NYC Midtown Uniforms 332.75
Brendan and Ryan battled neck-and-neck throughout the entirety of the week with Brendan ultimately emerging victorious. After leading from Monday to Friday, Ryan saw received an abysmal effort out of the bottom tier of his roster, which had been exceeding expectations to this point, namely Zach Davies (6pts). Offensively, Wil Myers (-5pts) was horrible, period. Brendan, on the other hand, saw Gary Sanchez (18pts) total 2 hits, both good for weekend homeruns, one of which was a grand slam and Luke Voit (43.50pts) smash 4 homers of his own. Couple that with JA Happ (40pts) and Clayton Kershaw (28pts) and viola, victory!
Joilet Pen Manatees 340.75 vs. Anders’s Team 317.00
Powerhouses collided in this cross-division showdown. Jason emerged victorious, thus wiping any chance for a perfect season in the 2019 rendition of The Pioneer Fantasy Baseball league. Some unusual names were the key catalysts this time around for the Pen Manatees, Eduardo Escobar (40pts) and Mike Minor (35pts) were terrific. Minor showed flashes of pre-injury, Atlanta Brave Mike Minor, punching out 13 over 7 frames against a threatening Mariners lineup. Corey Kluber (5pts) is still a disappointment so far this year. (ASIDE: TRADE HIM TO ME) Anders can’t necessarily be upset with the effort put forth this week, outside of Jacob deGrom (-4pts) confuzzling outing where he lasted just 4 innings. Outside of that, which may have been the difference in this matchup, Trevor Bauer (20pts) dominated Alex Bregman and the rest of the Astros… and made sure they knew about it. Batting wise, Ozzie Albies (29pts) was terrific, crushing 3 homers on the week.
What’s That Odor? 179.75 vs. Wichita SodaMammoths 319.25
Johnny was certainly smelling something foul this week from his team. After starting strong at 2-1, What’s That Odor? dropped a deuce in 4. Victor Robles (20pts) was the lone bright spot on offense, and one of 3 batters to score more than 9 points. Caleb Smith (20pts) continues to be a bright spot in the rotation, however. Cody’s namesake, Cody Bellinger (35pts) continues to hum to the number 1 fantasy ranking after Sunday’s matchups. Christian Yelich (20.50) isn’t far behind at number 2, although everyone is in a holding pattern with his back injury that occurred Sunday on the basepaths. In the rotation, Cody finally got the production out of Zach Wheeler (32pts) that he was expected when drafting him in the third round of the 2019 draft. P.S. Homer Bailey (-15pts) did Homer Bailey things and is back on the waiver wire.
Team Filler 316.50 vs. Rhys’ Pieces 332.75
Ecc and Brendan would have ended in a tie this week should they have been matched up, instead Ecc bested Team Filler. The team name, while a joke, has been appropriate to this point in the season. Tony received strong efforts from Ketel Marte (30pts) and Michael Brantley (24pts) but received little help from Jesus Aguilar (-3.50pts) (Who doesn’t look a thing like Jesus FYI) and early season stud, Anthony Rendon (-1pt), albeit due to injury. Ecc rode Steven Matz (43pts) and breakout performer Matt Boyd (30pts) to a narrow victory in this one. Chipping in with the stick was Rhys Hoskins (26.50pts) and Charlie Blackmon (24pts).
Duffman LOWE YEAH! 272.25 vs. Weed Piranhas 342.00
Justin Verlander (31pts) was partying like it was 2010. As a matter of fact, so was Lance Lynn (25pts) (I think he was pitching in ’10). Juan Soto (30pts) led an offensive brigade that saw Javy Baez (29pts) and Max Kepler (29pts) crush a combined 7HR. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Hunter Dozier (24pts) as I feel more connected to him and his stat lines than any of my family members currently. Casey had so high peaks but too many valley’s this week to emerge with a win. Domingo German (38pts) cruised to 2 wins but Dereck Rodriguez (-12pts) couldn’t keep last week’s success rolling. Jose Abreu (36.25pts) was masterful at the plate, yet Khris Davis (2pts) left much to be desired.
YourSisterIsStillHot 344.75 vs. I GOT WOOD 342.50
The closest, and highest scoring, matchup of the week involved Logan and Mike. Logan narrowly came out with the victory due to a steady attack of batters posting 20+ outputs. Included in this list was Yadier Molina (21pts). For all the slack he receives with the stick, he posted strong offensive numbers this week. Fellow Cardinal, Jack Flaherty (46pts) picked up 2 wins in 13 total innings pitched to go along with Chris Sale (27pts) starting to look like the ’18 version of himself. Mike’s batters were terrific to no surprise, but Trevor Story (33pts) and Nomar Mazara (33pts) led an impressive full-team effort that included Zach Eflin (28pts) throwing a complete game and Pablo Lopez (28pts) racking up 12 innings over the course of 2 starts and a victory for boot.
Daddy WarBuxton 328.75 vs. JudgeJuryExecutioner 196.25
Aaron slips to 2-2 after a rough week at the hands of Eric. Nolan Arenado (35pts) and Elvis Andrus (28.50) were strong offensive performers in the infield for Eric, really leading a hot-and-cold offensive output this week. Wade Miley (25pts) worked quickly and efficiently to the tune of 10K’s in 11.2 innings, while Charlie Morton (22pts) blanked the Red Sox over 6 innings en route to a victory. Aaron failed to have a batter break 17 points this week, although multiple were in double digits. Tim Anderson (16.50pts) bat-flipped his way to a respectable point total and Adalberto Mondesi (15pts) was solid, but unspectacular himself. Matt Harvey (24pts) made everyone think the apocalypse was coming after throwing 7 innings of 1-run baseball.
