Mid-Way Point Update
League Distinction, Keeper Values and Trade Deadlines
Week 15:
Leggo My Gallegos 519 vs. 1948 Revisited 431
It’s been a long time but we’re back for a mid-way point update in the 2021 PLFB season! To kick things off, Logan’s Leggo My Gallegos held serve and handily took care of Ryan’s 1948 Revisited squad in an extended all-star break week. Freddie Freeman (52pts) continued to mash baseballs ever since his son implored him to play better back in April. He led the way for Logan, while the ageless Adam Wainwright (34pts) threw 13 innings over 2 starts to lead the pitching staff. Ryan’s Kike Hernandez (45pts) and Nathan Eovaldi (40pts) were admirable keeping this matchup somewhat close but 3 players scoring negative or zero, coupled with the continued loss of Shane Bieber and Aaron Civale dragged Ryan’s team down to its ultimate demise.
Radioactive Hybrid Terror Pigs 532 vs. Uncle Stevie’s Army 485
A six (6) point matchup heading into Sunday was not what was expected when the 3-10-1 Uncle Stevie’s Army took on the 10-4 Radioactive Hybrid Terror Pigs, but that’s exactly what we got! Jason eventually pulled away on Sunday and cruised to victory due in large part to Brandon Woodruff (38pts), Alex Wood (28pts), Lance Lynn (35pts) and Marco Gonzales (19pts) combining for 75pts in their 4 starts. Juan Soto (58pts) was the catalyst for Ecc in making Jason sweat this one out but pedestrian pitching performances from Ecc’s staff left him a bit short.
Buehler’s Day Off 549 vs. California Dogecoin 484
Two teams firmly entrenched as contenders for this year’s PLFB crown squared off in the extended week. Johnny received a balanced performance from his batters and pitchers alike. Dodgers’ Will Smith (40pts) and Walker Buehler (45pts) were outstanding. Smith racked up 4HRs and 14RBI while his battery mate tossed 14.1 innings of 3ER baseball. Despite the loss, Casey has to be pleased with the continued emergence of Harrison Bader (36pts) who is finally making enough contact to utilize his power/speed combo. Getting Alex Manoah and Alex Bregman back will be beneficial for Casey down the stretch.
Adirondack Lumberjax 349 vs. The IL 289
Cody’s luck factor must have jumped 10 points this week alone. His score of 349 was better than 4 teams this week but thankfully one of those teams was Ders’. Austin Riley (36pts) was on pace with top performers on other teams as he whacked 3 balls over the fence. Carlos Correa (-2pts) will undoubtedly turn things around in the coming weeks and help Cody continue to compete for the 8th and final playoff spot. For Ders, Corbin Burnes (48pts) did about all he could to grind out a victory but ultimately needed more support from other spots on the team.
AndersonsGotTickets? 562 vs. Gabagool 469
A lot had been made about Eric’s decision to trade key pieces Tyler Mahle, Yoan Moncada and Alex Reyes for elite keeper, Cody Bellinger (11pts) in the beginning of the week. Based on the performance this week, Eric showed his team will still able to put a scare into anyone who has a tough week. That didn’t apply to Tony in week 15. Tony dropped his, “massive dong” as Eric put it, on this matchup. Tony’s offense came alive for the first time this season. Chris Taylor (42pts) and Matt Olsen (39pts) led 5 batters over the 30 point threshold. Tony vaulted himself into the driver’s seat for the 8th and final playoff spot with his win this week by overtaking Ryan in points scored (our league tiebreaker).
Hudson Yard Hammers 473pts vs. TrustThe(Fantasy)Process 272
Illegal roster…? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? No? Okay, let’s just let this one go and move on to Brendan’s team. Brendan finds himself in a 4-way battle for the 8th and final playoff spot and getting the wins you’re supposed to are a requirement for staying in the hunt. That’s exactly what happened in week 15. Trey Mancini (29pts) hit just under .333 with 4XBH to lead a steady offensive performance. Sean Manaea (40pts) struck out 20 in 12.1IP.
Sandy’s Strike 3Dome 518 vs. I GOT WOOD 476
For a while, it looked like Mike was on track to drop Eric and keep pace with Johnny for the top record in the league. Alas, scoring triple digits on Sunday leap frogged Eric to the victory and kept his 2 game division lead. Ty France (30pts) led Eric’s offensive output despite just 1HR in the extended week. The unlikely heroes of Patrick Sandoval (55pts) and Kyle Freeland (34pts) were key in producing big numbers for Eric to withstand Pete Alonso (43pts) and his 5HRs.
Eric Hosmer Fan Club 324 vs. YoungSouthernBombers 309
A tight matchup that also wouldn’t look like it should be on paper. Trent came in at 10-4 while Aaron entered at 3-11. Jorge Soler (29pts) finally looked like he figured something out this week with 4HRs for Aaron but Kyle Tucker (31pts), Caleb Smith (32pts), and Robbie Ray (31pts) all surpassed Aaron’s leading scorer, the aforementioned Soler, and allowed Trent to surpass Aaron on the final scoreboard.
