Establish a regular schedule
Provide a set morning and bedtime routine
Build and develop fine motor skills
[Rolling out play dough, holding a pencil, coloring, & cutting with scissors.]
Read books with your child everyday
Develop your child’s oral language skills by talking and having meaningful conversations. Ask your child questions and encourage your child to talk about her/his feelings, surroundings, interests, etc.
Model active listening by making eye contact with you child when she/he is talking
Help your child take responsibility & build independence
[e.g. helping to clean messes, dressing her/himself, putting toys away, etc.]
Encourage your child to use good manners & to share [e.g. “Please” & “Thank You”]
Build self-esteem by praising your child often.
Be mindful of separation anxiety and practice/discuss the procedures of going to Sure Start. Listen to your child’s concerns.
