PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Family involvement in children’s educational experiences is crucial to children’s success.

Children flourish when their families and schools provide consistent messages about learning and development.

· Parents are the prime educators of their children at home.

· The curriculum provides activities for parents to do in the home to support school curriculum.

· Parents are required to participate in Sure Start Program on a regular basis (30 hours per parent/60 hours per family, per year).

· Parents attend orientation training and parent education workshops.

· Home visits and parent conferences are an integral part of the program, with at least two home and two conferences completed each year

Parent Involvement Components:

will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in experiences and activities that lead to enhancing the development of their skills, self-confidence, and sense of independence in fostering an environment in which their own children can develop to their full potential.

will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in experiences in children’s growth and development, which will strengthen their role as the primary influence in their children’s lives.

will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in ways of providing education and developmental activities for children in the home and the community.
will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in activities in physical health, mental health (social-emotional), dental, and nutritional education.
will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in identification and use of family community resources to meet basic support needs of the family
will provide methods and opportunities for involving parents in identification of opportunities for continuing education that may lead toward self-enrichment and employment.
will provide methods and opportunities for parents to meet with the Sure Start teachers and other appropriate staff to discuss and assess their children’s individual needs and progress according to the proposed schedule for home visits and parent conferences.
will provide for regular two-way communication between staff and parents
will address parents’ needs in a timely manner.
