This week's music activities center around a piece of music called "Giant Steps" by a famous jazz musician and composer named John Coltrane. There are two objectives:
I can give meaningful feedback that is specific and useful.
I can create music using 5ths like John Coltrane.
Introduction: Listen to Mrs. Hatch read the book "Giant Steps" along with a recording of John Coltrane's famous piece.
IMG_4065.MOVTask: Create a piece of music like John Coltrane's using Chrome music lab. Watch this video where Mrs. Hatch gives the directions.

Give Mrs. Hatch feedback on her piece using the google form.
This is the piece that Mrs. Hatch made. Open it up and then use the form on the left to think about three things: tempo, percussion, and the use of fifths (go back up and watch the "task" video if you forgot what fifths/ 5ths are).
I can create music using 5ths like John Coltrane.
Use this link to open up a chrome music lab that Mrs. Hatch started for you. Finish the piece, and then click on "save" which gives you a link that you must copy and email to Mrs. Hatch (emily.hatch@student.dodea.edu). Bonus: Can you also give yourself feedback using the google form?
Closing. Reflect on how well you met the two objectives for this lesson. Can you give meaningful feedback? Can you create music like John Coltrane?
