Prehistoric Diorama

Before I started any modelling or sculpting the Cambrian diorama piece, I roughly sketched out on how I want the Opabinia diorama piece would look for this piece. The depiction I originally wanted to create was opabinia searching for food in the sandy seafloors.

For this geological period, I sadly had to scrapped the Cambrian diorama piece as I was running out of time during post-production of the final major project. Here is all the scrapped WIP of creating the opabinia 3D model before I abandoned to focus more on other geological eras.

Also, I will talk about on how I was to create meshes to create certain body parts of the animal to create full 3D model.

This beach mesh was one of the environments props that would used for my Cambrian diorama piece before I had to scrapped it due to time management and technological issues that I faced during Post-Production.

Organic Creature Sculpting:

During this process, I sculpted different head of Opabinia as I was trying to find the best reference to make the most up to date reconstructions of the animal but, sadly due to time management and lack of good references. I had to scrap this diorama piece to favour for the other diorama pieces to meet the deadline and complete the FMP. However, I will talk about the process on how I made this before scrapping it.

Firstly, I tried to sculpt the head of Opabinia to match the reference that I used to create the 3D head of Opabinia model. Then, I use the flatten brush to flatten the mesh to make it more cylindrical shaped to better match the proportions of the head so I can later add the proboscis and attached them to the main body.

Next, I use the clay brush to sculpt out to make the hole so I can later add the proboscis mesh to further complete the head mesh if I had the time to complete the diorama piece. I use the tube mesh to create the proboscis, I modified the proboscis mesh by making it more cylindrical and thin to better match the proportions of the actual proboscis that opabinia actually had when it was alive.

Finally, the last step that I did before scrapping the diorama piece was create the mouth of the opabinia proboscis. I use the trim brush to sculpt out part of the mesh and stretch the proboscis mesh to make it more elongated and narrow to make it more sharp and monstrous while making sure that it looks accurate to opabinia proboscis.
