Summer of Service
I have participated in the Summer of Service program through South Church since the 7th grade and during that time I have volunteered more than 300 hours at local non-profits. Each July we spend three weeks at a variety of work sites to help make a difference in our local community including:
Stocking the food pantry and sorting through clothing at Lazarus House
Harvesting hundreds of pounds of produce for local food pantries at the Giving Garden
Clearing hiking trails in Andover on behalf of AVIS
Cleaning and painting at Andover's ABC house
In addition to my summer volunteer work, in April of 2023 I participated in a mission trip to Keezletown, Virginia where we helped to build homes and completed other construction projects in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.
My volunteer work has been an important aspect of my upbringing and I've learned a lot about myself and the world through my participation. I've become aware of my own privilege and sensitive to the challenges that many people face in their daily lives.
