ITALY
Trip highlight (s): playing beach soccer with my new Italian friends; trying some delicious local dishes including capellini in brodo
Trip lowlight : getting stuck in the airport in Montreal and having to sleep on the floor
Outside my comfort zone: trying to communicate in Italian, despite knowing very little
In the summer of 2022, I traveled to the Marche region of Italy where I met my friend Donny's Italian family and friends. During my travels, I was inspired by the friendliness of the people I met and how, despite our differences, we had much in common. Because Marche is a less traveled part of Italy, we had the opportunity to experience Italy the way that locals do -- eating in small local restaurants and visiting sites off the beaten path. During our trip, I was able to share a little bit about American culture with the kids I met and learned something about daily life in Italy from them.
Some of the interesting spots we saw on our trip to Marche included: Senigallia, Urbino (a world heritage site), the Frassasi caves and Gradara castle.
