We started off with masks, and now they are optional. We started off by coming back to something that was new, something that we didn’t know would work. As the year before, we had been in a situation where school was barely existing, with caution ruling it. Now, school is almost “normal,” students and new ideas are roaming the halls again. This year was a crazy one, with Covid-19, the Ukraine invasion, etc…, etc.., etc.. However, despite all of it, did you meet your own goals for this year?
The question is, what was your goal? Your goal isn’t known to anyone, except by yourself. This year, we did a lot as a school, as an individual, the high school is a place where students can thrive. Did you take that opportunity?
For example, seniors, was your goal to get into a good college? Was it to get recruited to play on your favorite college’s sports team? Was it to find the perfect outfit for prom?
Or juniors, was your goal to ace the SAT’s? Was it to start those ever so dreaded college essays? Or was it to just hang out, and have fun?
Sophomores, was your goal to get used to the high school, it being the first time you step into this huge school? Was it to make it onto the varsity team? Or was it something else?
And freshmen, was your goal to survive your first year of high school? Or was it to take this year by storm?
Regents exams are approaching fast, there are finals hanging over you, which threaten to appear any second. However, with the end of the year approaching and the hot weather signaling summer is almost here, there should be more celebrating than terror. Celebrating your accomplishments and what you achieved for this year.
Prom was a success this year, a happy end for the seniors journey. Debate club, Animal Welfare, and other clubs had successful bake sales. On May 19th the music department completed a successful concert, and that's only a few things on the endless list of accomplishments the students did this year.
Reflect and look back on this year. 2022. Read this article, and allow it to break down a wall and get you thinking of what you accomplished this year, what you want for the summer and what you want for the next year. Don’t let finals bury you in work so you can’t reflect. Some of you might be graduating, others coming back again. Whatever the case, did you leave your mark on this year, on this school? Afterall, we lived through the school year that was full of firsts.
