Our philosophy is simple. Do no harm. The following grading policy will be enacted for the spring semester of the 2019-2020 school year only to allow students options for their reported grades amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Teachers will begin to grade assigned work on May 4th. The last day an assignment will be graded is May 29th.
Assignments that are graded will only be used to increase a student’s grade. The final second semester grade can never go below the grade earned as of March 13th (the day of the school closure).
All extra credit points will be earned by completing newly entered assignments dated after March 13th, 2020.
No points/grades/assignments entered in a teacher’s gradebook prior to March 13th, 2020 should be edited or changed unless allowable by Board Policy 6154 which allows for make-up work due to absences to be completed in a reasonable time frame. If a student was absent the week of the school closure, latitude should be given to allow them to make up that work only. All other future assignments will be counted in the “Extra Credit” category to allow for a grade increase.
When creating new assignments, the “Is Extra Credit” box must be checked in Illuminate Gradebook. This will allow all assignments completed to raise a student’s grade. It will not count against a student if they do not complete that assignment.
