best magazine covers 2018

It’s hard not to be attracted to this cover of Surf featuring a young boy poking his tongue out at the camera. It is, in the words of Wedge & Lever, “sophistication that does not take itself too seriously.”

I really like this portrait and think it is a very unique image. The photo portrays a fun and playful mood based on the expression on the boys face. I like that the portrait is black and white, I think that this adds a lot to the composition of the image. The subject is clearly the main focus and stands out from the background. Overall I think the portrait is very good and portrays a lot about the kid.

This cover of Wad uses the illusion of a model’s face torn in two to reveal another image of her face, perhaps trapped, perhaps empowered. Three eyes peer out at the potential consumer.

I really like this portrait. I think that it is very creative how they used the illusion of torn paper to show the different emotion of the woman. I think this could be portraying hidden emotion from the woman and what she shows versus how she feels inside. I think that the close up camera angle helps ensure that the main focus is the woman and its very simplistic. Overall I think the portrait is well done.

The cover of Pedal uses a shallow depth of field for this photo of a man wading further and further into the (not shallow) water in order to muster a feeling of wistfulness and adventure.

I really like this cover portrait. At first it kind of confused me and caught my attention. I like that it portrays an adventurous and fun mood. I think this cover is a good way to catch people's eye.  I also think the viewpoint is unique and adds a lot to the composition of the image. It makes you wonder where the boy is going and what he is doing because you can't see anything ahead.
