In this chapter, we cover information and guidelines about our work environment, threats and violence, what applies for example in the event of a fire, and other important information for your safety.
Work environment is both about your physical work environment, such as lighting, ergonomics, fire protection, etc. Work environment is also about the organizational and social work environment, such as how we behave towards each other, how we plan and organize work, and how our social interaction works.
When working conditions are in order, the physical and psychosocial strain of work will remain under control, and productivity will increase. The employer must ensure the health and safety of employees at work.
The central principle of occupational health and safety is anticipation.
A safe, healthy and well-designed work environment promotes efficiency and helps to prevent accidents and illnesses. The work environment must be designed and built with care, and both the facilities and all equipment must be well maintained and serviced regularly. Any faults found in equipment or other issues with the work environment must be remedied as soon as possible.
You can find more information about work environment:

The employer is responsible for the work environment, and the work must be done in collaboration with the employees. The work environment is carried out by all employees, and the working model that is preferred and needed is collaboration.
If there are more than five employees in the company/workplace, there must be one or more safety representatives. Safety representatives are appointed by the local employee organizations/trade unions that, in relation to the employer, are or usually are bound by a collective agreement.
In a workplace with more than 10 employees a safety committee must be set up with representatives of responsible business management and the employees. Even at workplaces with fewer employees, a safety committee must be established if the employees are requesting it. The term of office of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee is two years.
The safety committee must deal with issues related to occupational health care, work adaptation and rehabilitation activities, planning of new or changed premises, work processes or methods etc.
The occupational health and safety representatives, i.e. the workers' representatives, are elected through an election procedure.
The Occupational Safety and Health Committee deals with matters related to the safety, health and work ability of employees, and the Occupational Safety and Health Committee makes presentations, if necessary, with the aim of e.g.
develop working conditions
organize occupational safety training
develop occupational health care
develop activities that maintain work ability.
In all matters related to occupational health and safety, contact the occupational health and safety representatives.
You can find your Occupational Health & Safety Representative's contact information from the hotel's info board (ilmoitustaulu).
Duties of the occupational health and safety representative:
learn on own initiative and familiarize with matters affecting the safety and health of employees in the work environment and in the state of the work community by observing them regularly.
familiarize with the occupational health and safety regulations concerning the above-mentioned matters
first reports the deficiencies and grievances he/she has noticed to the management and the occupational health and safety manager
act as a representative of employees in relation to occupational safety authorities and participate in occupational safety inspections
to act in such a way that the operating methods that promote occupational safety and health would increase in the workplace.
A part of our work environment is about the organizational and social work environment. It is about how we behave towards each other and how we plan and organize our work tasks.
We have several policies, guidelines, and tools to actively work with the organizational and social work environment, such as:
Discrimination and anti-harassment Policy.
Whistleblowing function and policy
Code of Conduct / Ethical Guidelines
Your Voice - Our employee survey
Discrimination, abusive treatment, harassment, and sexual harassment in working life are serious threats to a good working environment, good health, job satisfaction, productivity, and opportunities for success. These behaviors are completely unacceptable at Strawberry and concern all employees in all positions.
No employee shall be subjected to harassment or other offensive treatment. All types of bullying in the workplace - both verbal and physical - are prohibited. This ban also applies to sexual harassment. Sexual harassment involves attention because of gender which violates someone's dignity. Sexual harassment can range from comments about a co-worker's body to sexual innuendos.
In the Policies & Documentation section, you will find our Discrimination and anti-harassment Policy.
