A collective agreement is an agreement that has been negotiated between employer organisations and unions. In addition to what is stated in Finnish legislation, the collective agreements provide additional provisions on the rights and obligations both the employer and you as an employee have within the framework of your employment.
Within the Hotel, Restaurant and Leisure Industry in Finland, the employer organization MaRa ry has signed two collective agreements (one agreement for Employees and one for Supervisors) with PAM ry. The collective agreements regulate the most basic conditions in the workplace, such as forms of employment, working hours, notice periods, minimum wages, vacations, etc. The conditions are adapted to how the working situation looks, specifically in the hotel and restaurant industry.
At your employment contract is stated which collective agreement applies to your agreement.
The collective agreements applies to all employments, it does not matter if you are not unionized or if you belong to other union than PAM ry.
Since you are employed in a company that is bound by collective agreements, there may be one or more union representatives at your workplace. Union representatives are appointed by the employee organizations with collective agreements. The union representatives are the employees' representatives and spokesmen and look after the employees' interests in matters concerning collective agreements and working conditions, they can in most cases represent the employees in matters concerning the entire workforce.
You can find your Union Representative's contact information on the hotel's info board (ilmoitustaulu).
