Termination must be made in writing and in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and Finnish employment laws.
If you as an employee or the employer want to terminate an employment, the termination process and applicable notice periods must be followed. Termination by the employer must be based on factual reasons, which may be a lack of work or conditions that pertain to the employee personally.
In the case of fixed-term employment, the main rule is that the employment ends when the agreed period is over.
The termination is effective from the day on which the termination was received. The notice period in case of termination, unless otherwise agreed in the employment contract, applies according to the collective agreement.
You as an employee must submit a written notice of termination to your immediate supervisor.
The notice period for self-termination is below unless otherwise agreed in the employment contract.
BLUE COLLAR WORKERS (Employees Collective agreement)
Notice period in in case of own termination
Employment period less than 10 years = 14 days notice period
Employment period more than 10 years = 1 month notice period
WHITE COLLAR WORKERS (Supervisors Collective agreement)
Notice period in case of own termination - 1 month notice period
Before the last day of employment, all material belonging to the employer must be returned, such as keys/access cards, IT equipment, and credit cards. If you are unsure about what should be returned, check with your nearest manager.
All written and oral authorizations terminate automatically. All financial dealings such as salary, holiday pay, credit cards, loans, and car contracts must be settled before resignation.
All relevant functions such as the payroll office and reception must be informed of the last day of work.
Upon termination of employment, by your request you are entitled to a service certificate containing information about your name, date of birth, the position you held, and its duration.
Only at Employees request the service certificate will contain an evaluation of Employees performance, the reason for the termination of the employment and/or personal recommendations.
