Throughout the school year, drama activities take place within the classrooms, whether it be the Aistear activities of the infant classes, role-play scenarios played out during SPHE lessons or dramaí bheaga sa Ghaeilge. These activities provide opportunities for children to shine as they enter the imaginative world of drama. The confidence they gain during these lessons will stand to them throughout their lives. For Christmas and end of year plays, children are always keen to learn the lines and songs. They collaborate with their teachers to put actions, gestures and expression into the various scenes. This is always a lot of fun and a great opportunity for the children to showcase their dramatic flair. Our ever-helpful team of SNAs, along with Paul, our caretaker, are always on-hand to assist in putting together the costumes, make-up and props needed for each show. It's always wonderful to walk past our hall and hear the children rehearsing their parts (many of us give in to the temptation to take a sneak preview as we pass!) And then it's on to the big day. The hall always fills up early with parents and grandparents eager to see the latest production. The nervous excitement is palpable as the children take their places backstage, each with a steady determination to deliver their lines, songs and dance moves. As the curtain opens a quiet hush descends on the audience and then it's lights, camera............ACTION!
