Tēnei te mihi, e te whānau,
What a wonderful way to end the term — celebrating our fabulous learning at the Kotahitanga Celebration! Learners proudly guided their families through Hubs 7–9, sharing their incredible journeys through Brazil, China, and Japan. Each child’s suitcase, passport, and country information booklet reflected the authentic, creative learning they had engaged in throughout the term. It was a true celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and global connection!
As we move into Term 4, we look forward to continuing to grow as curious, capable learners — embracing new challenges, experiences, and opportunities to bring our best together.
Ngā mihi nui,

This term, our concept focus is Unlocking the Power of Collaboration. Learners are exploring what it truly means to work together, solve problems, and communicate respectfully — even when things get tricky! We’re learning how to recognise and manage emotions, use positive self-talk, and show empathy by seeing situations from others’ perspectives.
As we develop these important skills, we’ll also be taking on hands-on challenges and designing our own collaboration games, where teamwork and problem-solving take centre stage. Through stories, discussions, and experiences, learners are discovering that when we collaborate with empathy and a growth mindset, everyone grows, learns, and succeeds together.
NZEI Te Riu Roa Teachers’ Union are currently in negotiations with the Government regarding their collective agreement. The union has called a strike on Thursday 23 October. With the number of staff involved in this strike, we will not have the ratios to safely remain open, therefore, school will be closed for instruction on this day. Kelly Club will be open if you need childcare. Apologies for the incorrect date in our previous comms.
A reminder our Year 3-4's will be taking part in Water Safety Skills sessions Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 October. Learners will be bused to Swim Magic in groups throughout the days.
Cost: $40.00, please make payment via your Kindo account.
Please ensure your child is prepared on both days with the following:
swimming togs
towel (preferably a hooded towel to keep your child warm)
goggles and a swimming cap (if you have these)
a waterproof bag for after their lesson
Hair to be tied up
Shoes that can be easily put on and taken off by themselves, like sandals. For health and safety reasons, they will be wearing shoes on the bus to and from swimming.
Learner’s will get changed at school and leave behind uniforms, bags etc. They will bus to swimming wearing their hooded towel to cover up and keep warm. Please ensure all items are CLEARLY NAMED including underwear, socks, shoes, uniform, togs, towel, goggles and swimming cap.
Please complete the Google form from Swim Magic. This will help the swimming instructors to place your child in the correct confidence level group.
As Term 4 begins, Sun hats are compulsory for all learners to wear when outside. We have two school hats to choose from - Bucket Hat or School Cap:
Bucket Hats offer the best sun protection covering your child's whole face and the back of their neck.
School Caps are a great option for when playing sports.
Both options are available via Kindo. Once purchased, please collect from the school office.
Please ensure your child's hat is WELL NAMED. You may also want to add a badge/motif/something to help your child easily identify their hat.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the lost property outside Te Pataka Ako! The rack is bulging with named jackets and the pile of hats continues to grow.
We invite you to join us for morning tea to celebrate Diwali on Tuesday 21 October. Morning Tea will be held in the staff room 10.50am - 11.20am, please bring a plate. All children are also welcome to dress in traditional outfits for the day.
We will also be celebrating at a Diwali-themed Friday Cafe on Friday 24 October. If your child would like to perform, please get in touch with Nathan Imboden. Also if you would like to organise a stall for this Diwali celebration, please get in touch with Anita Unka.
This term we have two Junior Assemblies. This is a great opportunity for parents to see everything we've been exploring and learning about in the Hubs. We hope you can join us at 2pm in the Hall on:
Monday 20 October
Monday 17 November
A reminder that Friday Cafe will be run a little different this term. Each week has been assigned to a Hub. We require two parent volunteers from that Hub to help run the cafe for that day. There will be an experienced volunteer there each week to help support and train up any newbies. Volunteers are only needed for one hour, 2.40pm to 3.40pm, on the Friday. We are assigned the following weeks:
Hub 9 - Friday 7 November
Hub 8 - Friday 14 November
Hub 7 - Friday 21 November
If a Hub is unable to secure two volunteers for their week, Friday Cafe will be unable to operate that week. Many hands make light work! Please let the office know what date you can help on.
We have two spots available in group guitar lessons with Nathan Imboden for Term 4.
Lessons are $35 for a 30min lesson with two other learners. Term 4 will consist of 9 lessons
Please contact the office to book in
If you'd like to purchase any of the beautiful photos that were on display at the Kotahitanga Cultural Celebration last term, they are $10 from the office. You're welcome to have a look through the selection.
Mark the date in your diary! On Wednesday 10 December from 6pm we will be having our Learning Achievement Celebration, held at Sacred Heart College Auditorium. This is an event for the whole school community to celebrate all learners' achievements this year. All learners Year 1-8, and whānau are expected to attend.
Please ensure all toys stay at home, this includes slime and character cards. These items can cause distractions during break and learning times.
We would also like large pencil cases at home, especially ones with calculators as it can hinder learning and cause further distractions.
Scholastic Book Club orders for issue no.7 2025 are now open. If you wish to make a purchase, please do so before orders close on Friday 17 October.
The ordering process is completely paper-less, and the current brochure is available to view here. There will be some paper copies of the Book Club catalogue in each of the hubs and the library, should you prefer to view the catalogue in paper form.
To place your order, please register using the LOOP website. You may then order via the website, or by using one of Scholastic's apps. Please select your child's hub (class), not their year level when placing your order. Please do not return anything to school as all orders are processed through the Scholastic LOOP system. You will be emailed when your order arrives.
If you have any problems placing your order, please email anna.malan@stonefields.school.nz or phone Scholastic on 0800 266 525.
