About the interviews

For this research, we conducted interviews with experts in the field. We interviewed a composer, a vocal performer/music librarian and a music publisher. These were some of the questions asked:

• Describe your musical experiences thus far.

• What are some of the barriers you encounter in your journey? How did you overcome them?

• In the context of your work, what is being done to highlight historically marginalized voices? What more needs to be done?

• You have significant experience as a guest speaker and panelist and lecturer. On that circuit, as an educator, what question are you asked the most?

• Was there any specific point in your life that inspired you to start advocating for the voices of composers of color?
